Re: Mobile Banking: Five Security Tips by HIPROFILE(m): 3:32pm On Jul 22, 2016
Always use a token (the hardware on time password generator) It is much better than have the otp sent to ur mail..what if a hacker has access to ur mail? Too. But it will be difficult for any impersonator to have all ur banking details including ur token except its an household hacker. Haha..

There is a high tendency that the phone which the person operates the app for mobile trasaction is the same phone with the number registered with the bank.
Pin? Lool......some people store their online pins carelessly in the message drafts or in a saved note somewhere in the phone.

used to be guilty of the above. Could u believe i even stored it as 'diamond bank passwd' shocked shocked embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed

Thankfully I've since rectified it as recognizing how dangerous it is.

Moreover I believe most banks have discontinued the SMS-based or software (app-based) OTP. You must use the hardware.

Furthermore some conscientious banks (eg GTB) require a two step verification for transfers; all beneficiaries must first be registered using a secret word AND the hardware token before any transfer can be effected. So even if in the unlikely even both token and the app passward are compromised, transfers can only be made to the previously registered beneficiaries. new ones cannot be added without the secret word.

u don't need to worry about ur money, the password combination is something else. I use fidelity it logs u out automatically if not in use for few minutes.

Yea its a good thing u'v quit making that mistake. Regarding the two verification security feature. I believe its not applicable to all banks because the last time I performed an Online transaction using zenith atm card. I used just my pin, cvv2 & a token sent to me via sms. So I think it differs. I don't know how the app based operates but I'm certain the 2 verification features doesn't apply to all banks.

Banking app is not like WhatsApp.. It has security features that the thief must have to login and do a y transfer.... Access, union bank apps and first bank have got security... That even if stolen when open you will need the token to do the transfer

Re: Mobile Banking: Five Security Tips by debtreview(f): 10:51pm On Dec 25, 2017
These days mobile banking is becoming more secure, but criminals are also becoming more educated. It is commonly known that MTN has insiders who will port your cell number which will give a criminal full access to your sms system, which is your main security feature for the one time pin.
The criminals have people working inside the banks. These clerks will provide the criminal with telephone numbers, identification numbers and bank account numbers for a small piece of the "profit". Once the criminal has the phone number ported, he changes the login details to the online banking and starts to transfer all your money to his fake name account. At our company we have had multiple consumers who needed debt counselling because of them falling into a debt trap by having to take out loans to cover what they have lost. The banks seldomly refund these poor people and they just have to deal with this. Not fair at all!
Re: Mobile Banking: Five Security Tips by debtreview(f): 5:56pm On Sep 25, 2020
These days the authorities know everything about you because of your cellphone banking and other ways of financial transacting. We have many clients at debt review SA that complain about their phones being monitored by the financial institutions. Online banking is not dangerous, but it opens you up to financial vulnerability. Our debt review clients have found that when they send money to a recepient or company that a day later they will receive advertisements on their phones for same products. Financial stuff is supposed to be private, the banking institutions should be investigated.
