It is no longer secret that Paul Pogba (23) is on his way to Manchester United for a world record €110 million after United agreed a deal with Juventus on Thursday. What is a bit confusing is whether such move is based on the need for the midfielder to progress further or for financial gain considering Pogba is leaving a team that has not only won the Scudetto four consecutive times but also played in the Champions League final a year ago for a team that hasn't finished in the top three of the Premier League since 2013 and that isn't participating in the Champions league this season after exiting the group stage last season.

"Anyone who has the opportunity to leave Juventus has to consider things cert carefully because right now Juve are among the top four European clubs," Max Allegri (Juventus coach ) stated last week.

Manchester United might offer Pogba an international appeal, publicity and branding that the Seria A and Juventus might not offer him but one must not
forget that this counts for nothing in the field of play as United has consistently flattered to deceive for some time now . Juventus also boasts one of the best players with the likes of Bonucci, Chiellini, Barzagli, Buffon and Dybala unlike Manchester United's unproven Anthony Martial, Chris Smalling, Darmian , Jesse Lingaard and out of form Wayne Rooney.

Juventus have also matched Manchester United (Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhtaryan and Eric Baily) in this transfer window by signing the likes of Marco Pjaca who was a revelation for Croatia in the Euro's, Dani Alves, Miralem Pjanic (AS Roma's best midfielder for the past two years) and Mehdi Benatia (had a bad spell at Bayern Munich but still a decent centre-back).

Juventus is a team on the rise and considering the rumoured signing of Gonzalo Higuain (scored more than 30 Seria A goals for Napoli last season) this summer, Max Allegri's side will only get better. Pogba might also have to worry that he is joining a team whose manager has never lasted more than three years in a club in his 16 years in top management. This will only spell more insecurity for both player and club after the exit of Jose Mourinho who has lost the dressing room twice in his two previous clubs.

Manchester United might be one of the biggest and richest clubs in the world but again this is nothing compared with the work to be done to return the club to the glory days given they are miles away from the days of Sir Alex Ferguson. From playing in a club where he is adored, revered and given the patience to grow, Pogba will be moving to a club where he will have to justify his record breaking transfer fee.

Paul Pogba's estimated salary of €14 million in Manchester United is more than three times what he would have earned in Turin and this is clearly what might have pushed the youngster to rejoining his former club this summer.

"If Paul leaves Juventus, it will be for the absolute top," Maina Raiola (Pogba's agent) made last year but in truth that isn't the case as Pogba has only moved to a top for his financial gain.

Simply put, Paul Pogba would still have made the move to Manchester United but clearly not at this point in his career as Manchester United currently ain't the same team it was when he left for Turin in 2013. Back then Juventus hadn't gone past the Champions League quarter final and only had two Seria A titles in the post -calciopoli era while Manchester United were one of the best teams in Europe under Ferguson. The move to Juventus represented a step-down for Pogba back then but he made the move in order to secure regular football which isn't the case presently .

Paul Pogba is currently not only joining a wrong project but also joining a wrong team, at the wrong time.
