Well, what do people expect. Nigeria has attained a level to outgrow third-world status but we refuse to grow up and so we are getting third-world results. Look at the military, government refuses to take the next step to keep up with Nigeria's level, which is Algeria, Brazil, Pakistan, Indonesia. Instead we want to wallow with the small boys like Ghana, Cameroon, Chad etc with the result that if we are not careful that Bokoharam will overtake us all one day. Look at the Olympics team -even Jamaica has overtaken us because we refuse to move from the level we were twenty years ago. While Britain is taking 360 athletes to Olympics we are taking 90 overused and under performing athletes. We refuse to compare ourselves to our age-mates but instead look back at a few west African nations that have steadily dropped out of the Olympics in terms of sending athletes, and then we don't care because it seems they don't care. If you are a big man and you insist on putting on khaki shorts and carrying slate to primary school don't be surprised if soon the primary school kids around you start outperforming you. We need to grow up,which means investing, professionalism and not being scared to aim for the highest standards and not caring if anyone calls us arrogant. Stop aiming at West Africa aim for America. 1 Like |

You watch, instead of placing the entire squad and coach in front of a metaphorical firing squad, someone will soon come and state, weakly, 'ooo, there are no more easy teams!' sickening |

PatrickAnyanwu:you blame everything on Buhari. The problem here is the NFF President himself. Misplaced priority is his problem. Imagine hosting FIFA President when you've not paid diz coaches and their boys. Leading the NFF is a big mistake d last administration made by supporting him. Useless man. |

It is quite interesting how some Nigerians also blamed PMB for this result. Last year when the same team excelled, nobody praised the government for the success achieved. Even more interesting is the fact that the team (officials and players) that won then and failed now are from the predominantly Christian Eastern region. Nobody raised an eyebrow because we are more interested in the success of the team and not where they hail from. I can imagine what the comments would be like if the team comprised mostly Northerners and Muslims. If only we could exhibit same understanding when it comes to government appointments and let them fail first before we link such to ethno-religious bigotry that has done us no good. Kudos to the team. Win some lose some is the spirit of sportsmanship. Although we are undergoing a trying period, we should also be gallant in defeat. |
