1.0 CREATING THE PERFECT TABLE OF CONTENTS IN WORD WITH NO STRESS

Step 1:
Creating a properly formatted Table of contents in a word document is quite simple, follow these steps;
Before starting the document or after completing, make sure to categorise each heading or sub-heading that you want to show on the Table of contents. This can be done using the style tool bar.

For example, since “CHAPTER 1 “ in this write-up would be foremost in a table of contents, these “CHAPTHER 1” is highlighted and “HEADING 1” in the styles tool bar is selected.
The next paragraph might contain the topic, this is also highlighted and “HEADING 2 “is selected thereby.
Then the Next paragraph might contain the Sub-topic, Here you also highlight the sub-topic and heading 3 is selected.

Once done.
To place the table of contents,
Select the “References” tool bar-“Table of contents”-“Automatic tables”…

This provides an automatic table of contents, complete with page number referencing your document contents.

However for perfection, you can also edit and rename the styles as you deem fit.
Editing styles is not difficult, it is done by right clicking on the styles, and selecting modify. Here you can change the text properties. (note; it should be done before allocating styles to the text.)
Microsoft word has numerous inbuilt pulgins that make creating or editing word documents easy and less cumbersome, other examples includes captioning pictures including creating a table of figures, creating references e.t.c.
