Will Jose Mourinho Give Fosu-mensah The Mata And Casillas Treatment? by luciomoggi(m): 1:10am On Aug 01, 2016

Jose Mourinho has made some bold and career defining calls in his career that either helped or made his case worse depending on how you look at it.

From the ostracising of Real Madrid and Spanish legend and captain Iker Casilas to his replacement with unheralded Diego Lopez . Also worthy of mention is the sale of Chelsea fans favourite and two times Player's Player of the Year Juan Mata to Manchester United in 2014.

Mourinho might have left both Real Madrid and Chelsea but this has done nothing to change him as it has been reported that he has told nine players in his new club Manchester United that they are surplus to requirements and are free to leave the club permanently or on loan. The reported players are Bastian Schweinsteiger, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Tyler Blackett, Paddy McNair, Adnan Januzaj, Andreas Pereira, James Wilson, Will Keane and Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

"Fosu-Mensah is not so much injured. But he has this little thing that we want to be careful with given that he is young. He is separate from the group until he is 100% back," were the words of Jose Mourinho on the unavailability of versatile defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah. This has been reported as lies coming from some quarters as many believe the Portuguese is bent on forcing the youngster to make a move out of the club.

Just like in his previous clubs, Manchester United fans are surprised that the Portuguese have put up Dutch U-21 left-back Fosu-Mensah for sale considering his impressive performance last season under compatriot Louis Van Gaal. However to some extent, the idea of selling the defender is understandable given he is unlikely to see game time this season considering that left-backs Luke Shaw (missed more than six months of last season through injury), Marcos Rojo (centre and left-back) and also Italian Darmian (can play both right and left back positions) are all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Although the Dutch man played only eight Premier League games last season, he was so impressive and won the hearts of the club fans. The Dutch U-21 can also play as a defensive midfielder, centre-back apart from his natural left-back position. Considering the petition by the club fans against selling the defender, only few know that the defender made his debut just four months ago in February against Arsenal. The protest over the sale of the player is based on the fact that unlike the other players in his position, the youngster is the more physical of the lot, coupled with his high recovery rate ability and versatility. Fosu-Mensah is also seen as a Manchester United academy graduate after graduating from the academy with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Paddy McNair.

Though Fosu-Mensah is still raw, his composure on the ball and communication with his team mates is rare in modern day football considering his age. Jose Mourinho has a tendency to cause media havoc and uncertainty in all his previous clubs and though it is believed that this constant confrontation has brought the best in him. On the other hand, it has also made his sacking easier judging from his fallout with both Real Madrid and Chelsea players during his spell at the clubs. Mourinho must concentrate on football matters rather than create problems even before he gets started. Selling fans favourite Fosu-Mensah might be the beginning of the end of his Manchester United career. United unlike Chelsea is a club where every of his decisions will be heavily scrutinised and where the fans have a major role to play at the club.

For the meantime, things have to change and the time is now.
