Things you only learn in hostel
One of the best parts of passing through school is living in hostel, especially a public one or a mixed hostel (male and female). You get to learn new stuffs, new rules, the dos and don’ts of hostel life.
Getting to the matter, Things University hostel
taught me.

1. Base line tech:
Lol, you’re thinking they’re one kind tech gurus but sorry, you’re wrong. Basing is just a formal way of begging for food. You hear boys say “oga mi, how far na, I fit base one” lol. As soon as he’s true basing, you see others lining up with their spoons with the same mission.
I still wonder, do they keep those spoons in
their pocket?

2. The normal way to use the toilet is the
abnormal way:

The wrong time to get pressed in hostel is
when water runs out. You’ll have no option than to use the toilet. I can testify that the view aint pleasant. On sight it’s either the package runs back or doesn’t, when it doesn’t, you have to use a lot of styles to pass it out, example- Jackie Chan style or
Spiderman technique(both legs and hands on the wall across the WC, or stand on the WC itself and so on

3. Some personal stuffs are for the whole room

After first – second week in hostel, you will
stop keeping stuffs like bucket, stove, body/
hair cream, perfume etc.

4. Beggy beggy make me rich:
Very close to the basing gang. They can beg
for Africa.
There was a time a roommate of mine wanted
to cook rice and beans. He beg rice from
taiwo, beans from kehinde, salt from idowu
lol. Funny how a stranger even came to our
room to borrow indomie, yes! Borrow
indomie.

5. Even students pay tax:
In social studies, we were all taught only
working class or salary earners pay tax but
this is different when it comes to the hostel
world. There are some dons in the hostel that
collects this cash. I’m sure you wouldn’t want
to cry because you don’t want to drop just two
hundred naira. Some call it codin money. I no
talk anything oooooo.

6. You learn to be cooperative
In hard times or when students are on S.A.P-
stomach adjustment programme, you learn to
cooperate with others, but it’s always so funny
when people start donating rice, beans, egg,
tomato paste, magi, salt and all then you hear
that dull roommate of yours saying “I get
spoon o”

7. you learn to be stingy:
it’s a common thing among freshers to be
very benevolent at the beginning of their stay
in school. They cook for the whole room, give
you whatever you ask them. But as soon as
hunger starts and they ask for things, sure
they wont be given, then they become
enlightened that in this life, it’s a one man
mopol thing

8. wyning is a normal phenomenal:
During my first days in hostel, I was feeling
really fly when I heard compliments like- fine
boy, starboy, bad guy, oga mi, sure boy and
the likes. Unknown to me, they were just
teasing me with it… eeyah, but I know say I fine shar

Well after all these, you can’t but look back
and laugh because it’s a really fun place to be

let me see...
1)there's more than meet the eyes: each person has their own agenda for doing or performing each action, secrets etc...Some times the loud ones are not even the ones in control cool
2) don't be quick to judge others
3) even your trusted allies and friends can leave you
4) people you start with might not be the same people you finish with
5) compromise is sometimes the key (just know your limit)
6) trust must be earned and not given freely
7) when men sleep, others work, eat, pplan, party etc
coolit pays to think 1st b4 acting
Etc

you learn how to hide things, i remember my roomate in hall4 hid egusi soup inside kettle

The hostel teaches you tolerance too, when you have a snorer as a bunkmate and a prayer warrior as a roomate, you will hear wen!

It also teaches you to be vigilant and security conscious, because people steal anyhow, even when you wash and hang your clothe outside you're not sure of packing them back intact.you also develop a sixth sense to keeping your phone
