Legends say China started in an incredible surge. Researchers simply discovered confirmation that the surge was genuine.

It's said the surge resembled "unending bubbling water," surging over the scene. A wave as tall as a 30-story building would have smashed over the banks of the Yellow River, crushing everything in its way. It drenched the roads of old China's beginning urban areas and washed away the encompassing farmland.

"The surge is pouring forward annihilation. Unfathomable and overpowering, it overtops slopes and mountains," goes a quote credited to the unbelievable Emperor Yao. "Rising and always rising, it debilitates the very sky."

If human progress somehow happened to survive, the general population required a saint who could tame the floodwaters and reestablish the area. That man was Yu, author of China's first line, the Xia. Through the span of decades, Yu sorted out a digging effort, burrowed channels that would convey the water back to its source, and spearheaded a custom of extraordinary Chinese open works.

"He brings request out of the disorder and characterizes the area, isolating what might turn into the focal point of Chinese human progress," said David Cohen, an anthropologist and early Chinese history master at National Taiwan University. "He is basically building up the political request and the belief systems of rulership."
