The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, has appealed to the authorities of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) and the Council for Legal Education (CLE), to ensure the inclusion of graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in their respective schemes, stressing that NOUN does not run part time or correspondence courses as being misconstrued.
Rasheed, who made the appeal while hosting the Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu, and his management team in his office in Abuja, described the continued denial of NOUN graduates opportunity to participate in the NYSC scheme and Nigerian Law School as unnecessary.
He noted that NOUN is a great revolution in the education sector, with a mission to bridge the admission gap in the country without compromising standards.
The NUC scribe stated that the open and distance mode of learning was no longer a foreign concept around the world and should be embraced and not discriminated against by conventional universities in the country.
Earlier, Prof. Adamu had noted that the appointment of the executive secretary was of great significance to NOUN and would ensure continued mutual collaboration between NOUN and NUC.
