Ten Things To Look Forward To Ahead Of The New Premier League Season... by Isoni(m): 4:37pm On Aug 11, 2016
The brand new Premier League season kicks off with champions Leicester City against newly promoted Hull City at lunchtime on Saturday.
A series of changes were made to the laws of the game following the end of the 2015-16 season, while there have been a number of innovations elsewhere that will change the Premier League as a watching experience.

Sportsmail has put together a guide to 10 things to look forward to from the English top flight in the new season.

1. One-man kick-offs

First seen at Euro 2016, the changes to the laws of the game means that the ball no longer has to be played forward at kick-off. As a result, teams can now simply play the ball backwards and start the game off by retaining possession without taking a player out of the game.

2. The Premier League ball

The Nike Ordem 4 ball features a blue, green and purple colour wave with multi-coloured segments surrounding the official badge. Nike are promising that the geometric 12 panel fuse-welded constructed ball contains the design principle of 'Flow Motion', which means the ball will be completely visible at all times.

3. Away tickets for just £30

A combined effort from the Football Supporters' Federation, who pushed forward the Twenty's Plenty campaign last season, and the Premier League means away tickets have been capped at £30 for the new season. Even better - sponsors like Virgin Media have caught wind of the feeling and have helped Southampton subsidise theirs at £20.

4. Friday football

Enough has been said about the new TV deal to know that changes are afoot in the Premier League. The biggest is probably the introduction of a game on some Friday nights, which has been a popular feature of the Championship for a number of years. The first encounter is between Manchester United and Southampton on August 19. Rachel Riley will be one of the new hosts employed by Sky Sports.

5. Removal of the triple-punishment law

Previously a player who denied a goal scoring opportunity within the penalty area would give away a penalty (punishment one), be sent off (punishment two) and suspended for a future game (punishment three). It has now been decided that a player committing an accidental foul that denies a goal scoring opportunity in the penalty area should not be automatically sent off. A yellow card will be handed out instead.

6. The beginning of the end for half-and-half scarves

They may be unpopular across the internet but half-and-half scarves tend to sell well outside most stadiums. Chelsea have made a move to end the selling of them, trademarking the word 'Chelsea' on all clothing items and thereby making it nearly impossible for traders to sell them. Expect other clubs to follow suit in the near future and the scarves to begin to disappear from stadiums.

7. Players receiving treatment without leaving the pitch

If this had been the case last season, Jose Mourinho may still be at Chelsea. If a player is fouled by an opponent who receives a yellow or red card and then has to receive treatment, they can do so without heading off the pitch afterwards. The change was made as it seemed unfair to hand a team a numerical advantage after a serious foul was committed.

8. Pre and post-match sending offs

Referees can now give a red card to a player at any time between the pre-match inspection and when the referee leaves the field at the end of the game. That means a red card can be given for a reasonable offence, such as violent conduct, during a warm-up or when the two teams line-up.

9. The slow decline of goal music

One of the first Premier League sides to have goal music, Burnley, have voted against having a celebratory tune burst out every time the home side hits the back of the net at Turf Moor. It's a significant knock to one of the modern game's biggest changes and it will be interesting to see if other teams follow suit.

10. Changes to television scheduling and new shows

BT Sport and Sky Sports have swapped their time-slot for the Saturday game. Sky now have the lunchtime kick-off in the Premier League (now 12.30pm, not 12.45pm), while BT have the evening match on a Saturday. At the same time, BT Sport have launched their own Soccer Saturday equivalent - Score - hosted by Mark Pougatch. It remains to be seen whether they can match up to Jeff Stelling's world renowned shout-fest.
