The Federal University Gusau, has said that it is yet to be connected to the the national grid for electricity supply.

The Registrar of the institution, Alhaji Ibrahim Kaura, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Gusau.

Kaura said that the university wrote a proposal to the Federal Government on the issue of electricity two years ago, when the school started operation but till now, nothing had been done to solve the problem.

He said that the university had been operating through stand-by generating set, costing about N600,000 monthly.

The registrar said that the university had poor internal revenue generation source unlike other second generation institutions, making operations difficult for the university authorities.

Kaura said that the lack of electricity had also affected the provision and supply of water to the university community as it had to buy water from commercial vendors.

He urged the government to assist the university and provide the basic amenities for learning and social life.

The registrar also urged private companies and wealthy individuals to visit the university and contribute their quotas to the development of the school.

“The rich people in the state should try and find time to visit the school and see for themselves how scanty the school is, in terms of structures and basic facilities, so that they will be moved to help.

“Just the way they do in other states, where the rich people donate for the development of the university and they will always be remembered for their contribution to the success of their country,” the registrar said.
