Why the hell would you want to overwrite a legal OS (vista) with a pirated version of Wndows Xp? Find out the problem why your Vista install is underperforming. if you can't fix it, dual-boot with Xp. |

Horlufemi: Even worse. You plan to install the RC1 - which expires in march 2010 - for him? Charge him money and fix his Vista installation. A Hp DV4 is pretty capable CPU-wise. Check his RAM, check for spyware, adware, malware etc. Check if he's got too many startup items running. There's no sense in taking off a genuine OS for a pirated install, especially when you can fix the Vista. That is all. |

Horlufemi: Lol You're using a cracked RTM build. That's still an illegal install, any which way you spin it. |

interesting responses thus far considering OP never stated the reason he's trying to switch to XP. @ OP, may i ask why you want to downgrade to XP? what exactly is the problem you're having with Vista? if you can answer these questions, you might be able to get some help with your machine here for free. just so you know, MS (Microsoft) is going to discontinue support for vista shortly soon, so you might want to hold on to your copy of Vista for now. |

Pls l want to change from vista to xp on hp pavilion d4 when you try to install XP over vista, it should say something like no hard disk found or similar. The reason that being is because the installation disk of xp is only capable of detecting IDE Hard drive not SATA drive which is the latest disk controller. I have hp myself so what you need to do is turn off the laptop please back on again, dont wait for anything else and immediately keep pressing F10 on your keyboard until you come to blus screen called BIOS SETUP UTILITY use yo arrow key to navigate across the screen and look for main advance diagnostics and then you need the one that says system configuartion and then look for SATA native mode set that to disbale doing that will now make the OS disk to detect your hard drive and installation will begin. but am still curious why you want to instal XP Good luck |

deji2009: i'm also curious why you didn't ask that first before offering a solution to an unknown problem. |

fiso baba: have you checked to see if there's a recovery partition or the recovery application which you can use to create the recovery cd/dvd installed on your hard drive? the reason i asked is that most pc manufacturers these days do not include recovery cd or dvds (though a handful still do but majority don't). you might want to start there first before doing anything drastic to your machine. Peace! |
