It would be out-rightly unfair to let this fade away without bringing the act of benevolence of this president to your awareness.

Most world leaders especially from developing countries are more concerned about looting their country’s treasuries and building empires for themselves. They almost never care about the poor and their social welfare, neither do they think about the people who voted them into power. Most of these leaders only put their personal interests and that of their families at heart. They wholeheartedly enjoy the treatment of their first class citizenship and do not joke with the luxuries that comes with them.

Jose Alberto ‘Pepe’ Mujica Cordano is a highly respected man in Uruguay. He is said to be the world’s poorest president and served his country between the years 2010 and 2015 as the 40th president of Uruguay.

What makes Jose Alberto different and so unique in comparison to the other presidents that have served is his act of benevolence. His austerity lifestyle made people regard him as the world’s poorest president. He chose to live in a farm house despite having access to the presidential mansion and first class treatment. He preferred to live in a farm located in a rural area outside Montevideo.

The lifestyle of Jose Alberto is an interesting one as he preferred to live so simple despite being paid an equivalent amount of twelve thousand US dollars monthly. The most intriguing part of his act was that he gave ninety percent of his earning to the poor, including small-scale entrepreneurs.

After giving out ninety percent of his salary, Jose Alberto is left with an amount that is equivalent to the salary of an average Uruguayan per month. Despite his act of charity, he never felt poor and enjoys his life on the farm.

It is very possible for Jose Alberto to embrace a solitude lifestyle due to the time he spent in jail.

His past revealed that he was a former leader of Tupemaros, which was a guerrilla group. This group was a violent one that fought for the poor using a Robin Hood-like strategy. He was in confinement for Fourteen years which probably molded him and changed his way of life.

His political views were quite unsettling considering the fact that he supported same-sex marriage, the legalization of marijuana and abortion rights. While assessing his lifestyle and acts, people felt he did not act like a president, but with no doubt was someone that relates with the poor.

His leadership style was to live by example; and his choices clearly reflected that. He never saw himself as someone who lacked the basic things of life as he embraced this lifestyle.

In fact, in addition to living in a farm house, his official car was a 1987 Volkswagen Beetle. He had lived like that all his life and was happy with what he had.

In conclusion, his perspective about life was a very interesting one.
