All You Need To Know About Conte And How He Can Win Trophies For Chelsea by oyeniyi10(m): 6:21am On Aug 21, 2016 |
Antonio Conte, nicknamed ‘The Godfather’ as well as ‘The
Madman’ because of his uncontrollable desire to win
games, broke onto the scene in 1986 where he made his
debut for Lecce at the ripe age of sixteen before moving
to Italian giants Juventus and went onto become one of
the most decorated and influential players at the club. In
2004, Conte hung up his boots and decided to move into
the trade of management. Conte started his managing
career in 2006 where he was appointed at Arezzo but was
sacked after only a couple of months after a series of bad
results and seeing his side relegated to Serie C. From
2007-2011, Conte moved around Italy seeing himself
appointed manager for Bari, Atalanta and Sienna but in
those four years, he was constantly being speculated with
a dream job move to manage Juventus. Three times he
was linked and three times he was rejected but in May
2011, a hero came home. Conte took over at the helm of
Juventus and in his first season, he led the club to
another Serie A title as well as finishing the season
unbeaten. Following this remarkable season, Antonio
Conte was named Manager Of The Year. Conte continued
at Juventus for another two seasons in which he won the
Serie A Title in both before being approached by the
Italian National Team and as anyone would, he moved on.
For two years, the Italian national team struggled to find
form and was labelled as the worst side Italian football
has ever witnessed. Italy managed to qualify for the 2016
European Championships but was not tipped to go far at
all but as most of us saw this summer, Antonio Conte’s
men shocked us all with a stunning 2-0 win over reigning
Champions Spain in the opening game, defeating Sweden
and losing to Ireland. Italy sadly were knocked in the Last
16 after being defeated on penalties by Germany
(Obviously that would happen.) therefore ending Antonio
Conte’s time as manager of his national team because he
said before the competition started, that he would be
moving on to manage Chelsea.
Antonio Conte’s time in Italy was deemed a huge success
but he was most famously known for starting the 3-5-2
formation at Juventus which allowed his sides to attack
as a team as well as defend as a team. This was a huge
success and the question was asked if he would take the
risk and apply this to English football.
Conte made his way across the sea and started his reign
at Chelsea. He quickly made his presence known within
the transfer market with the signings of Michy Batshuayi
from Marseille and Ngolo Kante from Leicester. Chelsea
fans are desperate to see improvement in the clubs
performances after a disastrous 2015/16 season where
we saw them finish 10th, only a season after strolling to
the Premier League Title under Jose Mourinho. The start
of the season has looked promising with Conte’s blue
army winning two from two and sitting in third place, but
what has he done to change the clubs performances and
how will he make Chelsea one of the greatest sides in
Europe again?
Antonio Conte sides are famously known for being a
family. Everything that goes on within the team does not
go through one man but the whole squad giving off the
impression that it does not matter who you are and it
does not matter if you start or not, you are respected and
wanted by the club. This is the first step to redemption
after a torrid season. Antonio Conte is a manager that
wears his heart on his sleeve and will protect and fight for
his players no matter the scoreline. Chelsea are only two
games into the season but they already seem to have
rekindled the ‘never say die attitude’ that they are so
famously known for down the years with two wins
coming in the dying minutes of games. The main aim for
Conte is to keep the players on his side otherwise he will
see his reign come to an end very quickly, especially if the
big boss Roman Abramovich is not happy with him, but in
his managerial career, he has never had this problem and
big name players have openly stated that he is one of the
greatest coaches they have ever played under so this
bodes well for the London club.
It is never easy coming into a huge club like Chelsea
where expectations are set so high for fantastic football
and goals but most importantly, the desire to win trophies
but what Antonio Conte has already done is steady the
ship. In these early stages of the season, Chelsea need to
find the right balance, they need to regain confidence and
most importantly, become a family within the changing
room again and enjoy the football they are playing
without feeling the pressure of what is expected of them.
Once this has been ticked off, the goals and attacking flair
will come because there is no doubt about the talent
within the squad with players such as Eden Hazard, Diego
Costa etc. It may be said too much in football but
patience really is a virtue and Chelsea fans will be more
than happy to watch their side scrape victories up until
this quality returns for good, although i cannot speak for
all.
What everyone can agree on is that Antonio Conte is a
remarkable addition to the Premier League and over the
next few years, he will be a pleasure to watch. His desire
to win and his love for the game is shown at every
moment during the ninety minutes, this is what every
football fan loves to see because we love the beautiful
game and what happens within it. As for Chelsea, Antonio
Conte will lead them into battle and they will come out
nine times out of ten victorious because he is a winner
and we will see this as the season progresses, but it won’t
be easy going up against the likes of Jose Mourinho and
Pep Guardiola as they are two of the greatest managers
football has ever seen. What is safe to say is that we are
in for a special season in the Premier League but When
have we never seen that before? It is the greatest League
in the world, no matter what others say. |
