How Thugs Disrupted NANS Convention by yamaabana: 10:29am On Aug 21, 2016
PRESS RELEASE

How Thugs Were Sent to Disrupt The NANS 31st Annual Convention at Gombe State When it was Noticed That Yamaabana Has Won.

Team Legborsi Yamaabana Campaign Organisation for NANS presidency is constrained to address the false, frivolous and off-the-mark impressions been peddled by some quoters and individuals regarding the botched NANS 31st annual convention held at the Township Stadium Pantami Gombe State, on the 17th of July, 2016.

For the record, it is imperative to state that the NANS convention started at about 12am on Sunday 17th July, 2016 with accreditation of delegates (SUG Presidents) and a total of 224 delegates were accredited followed by the election of convention chairman where comrade Prince Miaphen emerged as convention chairman. Thereafter, the national officials and the Convention Planning Committee (CPC) were disolved and then, nomination of candidates in to the office of president began and ended with the nomination of the following persons:
1. Sunday Legborsi Yamaabana
2. Kadiri Aruna
3. Chinonso Obasi
4. Igwe Ude-umanta
5. Tonye Tom-George

The election was going on smoothly. however, when it was discovered that Comrade Yamaabana was leading in the total votes cast, other presidential aspirants conspired with the convention chairman and called in miscreants who invaded the venue of the convention with urbane weapons and started shooting forcing delegates and other dignitaries skampering for safety.

Moreso, Yamaabana was at all time, the only legitimate student that contested for the presidency position in the election in accordance to Article 23 of the NANS Charter of Demands and constitution.
Others were none students, school drop out or has since graduated, even the convention chairman, who currently claims to be the acting president of NANS is not a student.

Worststill, after the calculated disruption of the pool about three out of the five nominated presidential aspirants has hitherto, purputedly and falsely declared themselves winners plus the convention chairman making it four factional leadership.

We find it appalling that in this 21st century, we are still debating if an aspirant contesting to hold a position as an executive/official of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS) should be a student or not. Even when the NANS Constitution and Charter of Demands in Article 23 (a) is very clear on the studentship of anybody aspiring to hold any elective position in NANS.

In view of the above and after extensive consultation with stakeholders, Nigerian students and opinion leaders, we wish to state as follows:
1. That Comrade Sunday Legborsi Yamaabana be sworn in immediately as the 31st NANS president on or before the 23rd August, 2016.

2. That all those still parading themselve as NANS president stop forthwith for the interest of Nigerian students and the association.

3. That the convention chairman, his agents and privies stop any plan of calling another convention as he (they) dose not have the mandate but to do the needful.

4. As law abiding citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, if our demands are not met, we shall in the coming weeks seek redress to this unjust and extra-judicial phenomenon that characterise the convention ochestrated to ursup the mandate freely given to Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana.

5. In the final epitomisation, we call on our teeming supporters to be calm and keep the faith, even though we are in kfor a very rough ride, we shall exhaust all mechanism to reclaim our mandate and certainly, it shall end in praise.
We are revolutionalist, enough is enough, NANS must be REJUVENATED.
