When Nissan switched the Pathfinder from body-on-frame to unibody platform in 2013, it made the transition from technical SUV classification to the growing car-based crossover category, but neglected to take its signature styling with it. Mistake. Even if the Pathfinder no longer had the truck-cred to back up its name, fans wanted it to at least look like it did. On message boards and owners’ forums (which Nissan engineers confirmed they read), people pined for that boxy profile that defined the model and set it apart from the hundreds of thousands of other crossovers on the road.
