Facebook CEO was in Nigeria and he visited a couple of spots and his visit isn’t political, but pure technical or technology based hovering around ICT space. Zuckerberg is in Nigeria to listen and learn and take ideas back to California on how Facebook can better support tech development and entrepreneurship across Africa. One thing of note is that, I couldn’t recall Zuckerberg visiting either the Aso Rock or Ambode. He was a simple dude that his organization is worth more that the money Nigeria as a country have in the World Bank.

One of his first stops on the trip was to visit a ‘Summer of Code Camp’ at the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Yaba, known as the Silicon Valley of Nigeria. CcHub opened in 2011 and at the time didn’t even have an office. Five years later they fill three floors and the roof of a building. At CcHub people can learn how to code, developers can get help launching their first products, and find mentors and funding. In contrast the Nigerian Bank of Industry doesn’t understand or have refused to understand the concept of ICT startUps. I am yet to see an ICT software or any online development firm that is being supported by Bank or Industry or any Nigerian Bank. We have not even started talking about ridiculous demands these banks ask for. It will be a write up for another day. (How not to grow in Nigeria as a start up) .... https://etimesafrica./2016/09/01/zuckerberg-visit-and-hard-lessons-learnt/

A very big lesson for Africa and Nigeria in particular: Diute investment in oil and gas explorations, it has brought more sorrows than blessing from high levels of corruption to Dutch disease. Invest more inhuman capacity, Research and Development, it is the only sustainable path to greatness, classical examples abound from Singapore to China and from Dubai to India. Will Zuckerberg visit Aso Rock? I doubt, he isn’t a political being and he isn’t interested in that, but can he change the ICT landscape globally ? Yes, because Facebook has billions of data in it. So in a nutshell, knowledge is power. It’s high time Africa started investing in it.
