The Golden 10 Days Of Dhul Hijjah. by Kazrem(m): 7:13am On Sep 02, 2016 |
In the Name of Allaah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. "By the dawn; by the ten nights" Q 89:1-2 All praise be to Allaah Exalted be He, who has created everything. And your Lord creates whatsoever He wills and chooses. Indeed, Allaah chose Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) among all His creations to be the best, and among people He has chosen his Companions (RA) to be the best of nations and He has chosen Friday to be the best day of the week, Ramadan as the best Month of the year, last ten nights of Ramadan as the best nights, night of Power as the best night and He has chosen the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah as the best days of the world and the best of its days is the day of Sacrifice. Abdullah ibn Abbas, Abdullah ibn Zubayr, Mujahid ibn Jabar and others among the salaf and latter generations unanimously agreed that 'The ten nights' in Suratul Fajr refers to the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. Our days cry out for righteous deeds while the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah beckon to us with a promise of greatness and spiritual opportunities. The hadith on the strength of Ibn Abbas (RA) from the Prophet (Pbuh) is sufficient for any such individual that needs a reason to take full advantage of these days. He (Pbuh) said: "There is no deed more precious in the sight of Allaah, nor greater in reward, than a good deed done during the ten days of sacrifice." They said, "Not even Jihad for the sake of Allaah?" He said, "Not even Jihad for the sake of Allaah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing." Sahih Al-Bukhari Oh he who aspires for greatness in this world and the Hereafter, take advantage of these days by reciting a lot of dhikr (Allaah's remembrance), Tasbeeh (Subhanallaah), Tahmeed (Alhamdulillaah), and Takbeer (Allahu Akbar). Lest we forget, in these ten days there is a great day (the Day of Arafah) on which Allaah revealed "This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion." Q5:3 Signalling the culmination of Allaah's Favor upon us. On this day those on the plains of Arafah spend their day worshipping Allaah relentlessly while those that are not with them are encouraged to observe sawm (fast) for fasting this day expiates the sins of two years as was reported in an authentic narration from Abu Qataadah. Kindness to parents, helping those in need, keeping the ties of kinship, forgiving those that have wronged us, engaging in charitable acts, fasting the first nine days, repenting back to Allaah, reviving a Sunnah among others are all recommended acts for those that anticipate these days with keenes and zeal to gain closeness to Allaah. However, for those that intend to offer a sacrifice they must refrain from cutting their hair and nails and removing anything from the skin when the days set in until they have made sacrifice on the 10th day. Oh you whose heart has been darkened by sins, do not further plunge it into darkness by committing more sins in this month of Dhul-Hijjah. Allaah says: "Verily, the number of months with Allaah is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allaah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are sacred. That is the right religion, so wrong not yourself therein..." Q9:36 These four sacred months are Dhul-Qadah, Dhul-Hijjah, Muharram and Rajab. Imam Qataadah said: "Injustice during the Sacred Months is worse and graver than Injustice in other months. Verily, Injustice is always wrong, but Allaah makes things graver than others as He will." As quoted in Ibn Katheer. Oh the actively righteous and even the weak ones, take advantage of these days by multiplying your good deeds but in doing so do not also forget that sinning in this month is greater and graver than sinning in other months. We sincerely seek for Allaah's aid and assistance in order to have the strength and wisdom to live up to our high spiritual aspirations. Jazakallahu khiran Let me just add more to the list of practical deeds that a person can do on these days • Reciting a lot of Tasbeeh Tasbeeh- ("Subhan-Allaah" , Tahmeed ("Al-hamdu Lillaah" and Takbeer ("Allaahu akbar" during this time. ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "There are no days greater in the sight of Allaah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahleel ("La ilaaha ill-Allaah" , Takbeer and Tahmeed." (Reported by Ahmad, 7/224; Ahmad Shaakir stated that it is saheeh). •It is Sunnah to say Takbeer - Takbeer may include the words "Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, la ilaaha ill-Allaah; wa Allaahu akbar wa Lillaahi’l-hamd (Allaah is Most Great, Allaah is Most Great, there is no god but Allaah; Allaah is Most Great and to Allaah be praise)," as well as other phrases. Do note that men should recite the takbeer aloud whilst women do theirs silently. •Fasting- The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the first nine days of Dhu’l-Hijjah. It was narrated from Hunaydah ibn Khaalid from his wife, that one of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the first nine days of Dhu’l-Hijjah and the day of ‘Ashoora’, and three days each month, the first Monday of the month and two Thursdays. Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 4/205 and by Abu Dawood; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 2/462. •Hajj and Umrah: These are one of the best deeds that a Muslim can do during these time. Now fo those of us that can’t do hajj or umRah beacuse aa ni visa abi ko si owo visa (no money for visa or we don’t have visa), look no further! We can get the rewards for BOTH hajj and umurah at our doorsteps. “Whoever prays Fajr in congregation then sits remembering Allaah until the sun rises, then prays two rak’ahs, will have a reward like that of Hajj and ‘Umrah, complete, complete, complete.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (586) •Reviving aspects of the Sunnah that have been virtually forgotten- the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): "Whoever revives an aspect of my Sunnah that is forgotten after my death, he will have a reward equivalent to that of the people who follow him, without it detracting in the least from their reward." (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 7/443; this is a hasan hadeeth because of corroborating asaaneed). •Repentance: It is important to note that just as good deeds during these days are among the best of deeds, bad deeds during these days are also considered the worst of deeds. So it is important to prevent falling into sins and repent sincerely from past sins. •Doing righteous deeds in general: keeping family ties (call your relatives!), reciting the Qura’n, doing dikhr etc Lastly I just want to add that no one should let shaytan tell him/her that he/she cannot fast the first nine days. If you can fast an entire month then nine days should not be much of a difficulty. Just try fasting one day and in sha Allah the rest would be easier. I don’t think I have ever fasted the whole nine days but in sha Allah this year would be different for me. I will take a step further by fasting the entire nine days in sha Allah. I am ready for it! Are you? Do note that if you can’t fast the entire nine days please don’t miss fasting on Ashooura (the day before eid). Fasting on this day expiates the sins of two years! The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Fasting the day of ‘Arafah I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year before it and the year after it, and fasting the day of ‘Ashoora’ I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it.” Narrated by Muslim, 1162. https://islamqa.info/en/1699 24 Likes 5 Shares |
