INTRODUCTION

Conflict is natural, and as such, it cannot be eliminated from society. Conflict is a normal part of everyday life and it is part of living in a thriving pluralistic democracy. Conflict becomes problematic when it escalates to violence but violent conflict can be prevented. Whether on a personal or international level, dispute resolution is possible when parties in dispute with one another use conflict resolution tools to manage their disagreement.

Pursuing a conflict and crisis management professional programme can be a great way to help prepare yourself for a career in the field or to prepare yourself for future appointments in several other fields since conflict can be found anywhere humans co-exist. Conflict and peace studies is an area of social science that analyzes violent and non-violent behaviour and the structural mechanisms that lead to conflict with the goal of using this understanding to promote peace and a healthy human condition. Professionals in Peace and Conflict management may work in a variety of areas including international criminal courts or tribunals, civil-military operations, community based restorative justice, human rights protection and monitoring, local peace building training, nuclear and small arms proliferation and other higher level positions in labour relations, mediation, arbitration or contract negotiation and many more. Conflict management skills are necessary for any so-called "civilized" society and everyone deserves Conflict resolution and management skills. Hence, there is a compelling need for EVERYONE to acquire good conflict resolution skills-good communication and interpersonal skills for building and sustaining relationships for enhanced team work and increased productivity.
Managers and leaders often find themselves in key roles to influence how teams get along.
