Last Saturday, villagers outside of Fuzhou, China, witnessed the presentation of 6 million yuan, approximately $900 million in cash at a local wedding ceremony.

The groom, Chen, is the son of a rich local entrepreneur whose fortune was made in real estate and footwear in Guangzhou.

Tuhao is a Chinese term referring to people of wealthy, prominent backgrounds. In the internet age, the term has also become a popular slang used to describe ‘nouveau riche’.

For the wedding, the Chen family who are obviously Tuhao, decided to gift the family of the bride with the huge sum of money.

They then opted against a bank transfer, and chose instead, to present it to them in cash - piling up 12 cash stacks on the stage for all to see.
As is the custom in typical Tuhao wedding, the couple was escorted to the wedding by a convoy of 7 luxury cars.

Photos of the wedding have gone viral on Chinese social media.

Reports in the village also said there were 50 tables at the wedding for relatives, friends and locals. Some business friends also came to the party with red envelopes containing 500 RMB [$75 Million] which they gave guests at the wedding as ‘souvenirs’

This seems to be common practice at rich Chinese weddings, as it was reported earlier this year that another Fujian groom was rumored to have given 100 million RMB [$1.5million] and a private jet to his bride-to-be.
