It's another festival season and this time, it's the Toronto International Film Festival, live in Toronto, Canada. In this 41st edition, the TIFF is parading a host of star selections from all over the world. As always, Hollywood leads the way with films like The Magnificent Seven opening the festival night, Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals still to come. major stars including Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio are gracing the event.

Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, termed the 3rd biggest in terms of production, have suffered public ridicule of late especially in Nigeria. Poor production values, weak stories and it's recent embrace of YouTube soft porn has plagued a promising industry that employs hundreds of thousands. Poor funding, weak cinema structure, terribly copyright laws and monstrous piracy have always contributed to the dwindling fortunes of Africa's biggest movie industry.

Yet, Nigerian film makers still thrive for success. Quality movies with high production values are coming into fray, cinema houses are sprouting. Recently FilmOne, one of the leading cinema owners, performed the ground breaking opening of an IMAX theater. The evidence of a growing, better film industry is highlighted by this year's TIFF. The festival selected eight Nigerian films for screening. These films would not have made it through the screening committees if they were not of high quality international standard. Below is the list of the selection.
