Manchester United Vs Manchester City Derby Review – Da “thrilla In Manchesta”! by uneeking(m): 5:47pm On Sep 10, 2016
10th September, 2016 Written By Kingsley Okpoh.

Sometime back in 1974 in Kinshasa in the then Congo Brazaville, we had a boxing match aptly tagged “Da Thrilla in Manilla”. It featured boxing legends – Late Mohammad Ali and Joe Frazier. I still have fond memories of that encounter till date. If you can lay your hands on its video, please go ahead and entertain yourself with it. It is simply breath-taking and immortal.

The closest to that encounter took place today the 10th September, 2016 in Manchester in the United Kingdom. This time around, it was not a boxing match but a football or soccer game between hosts Manchester United and Manchester City Football Clubs.

What an explosive display from both sides! As a matter of fact, the British Premier League was the real winner of this match. In a very long time, this league has not witnessed such a high-tempo, exciting and dramatic match like this one.

When the teams were busy breaking transfer records during the open transfer period, only a few of us beleived that it would bring about such a level of transformation to this undoubtably best packaged soccer league in the whole world. Kudos to all the actors involved in bringing about this high level of soccer entertainment.

As for the match proper, Manchester City not only won by two goals to one but were surely the better of the two sides even though they were playing away from home. They were more athletic, confident on the ball and very importantly, took their chances far more effectively than Manchester United F.C. The latter wasted far more chances than their opponents in this epic soccer encounter and that was quite decisive in the overall result.

Zlatan Ibrahimovich scored the only goal for Manchester United but was guilty of wasting a number of good scoring chances all through the game. De Bruyne and Kelechi Iheanacho scored a goal apiece for Manchester City as proof of how menacing they both were in front of goal as they both provided assists for one another in the build-ups to both goals with De Bruyne unlucky to have hit the upright again later on in the game.

From what we saw in this match, one cannot but agree with Arsenal F.C. manager Arsene Wenger when he said the winner of this game surely becomes the favourite for the Premier League title. Favourite yes, but surely not yet the winner. A long way to go still for that.
