Kidney stones is something we all hope to never experience in our lifetime not only is it deadly but it is equally painful so it is highly recommended that we considers ways to avoid this disease. Our kidneys do the job of keeping our blood clean by removing the waste products from the body through urine. When there is not enough fluid or excess waste the urine becomes over saturated and a stone might form. This stones can be present for years without obstructing any opening but when a stone obstructs the ureter then serious pain follows.

Most medics think that people who form kidney stones lack specific chemicals in their urine to prevent them from forming while other factors like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and cardiovascular diseases can increase a person’s risk of forming a kidney stone. Though, you can limit your risk of having this sickness by follow this simple tips.

Develop the habit of drinking water: Like I earlier said stones can form when there is not enough fluid in your system so getting enough fluid is important for kidney stone prevention. When there is not enough water in your body system, urine becomes more concentrated, which can potentially lead to the formation of kidney stones. It is also important for you to note that sugary fruit juices and cola drinks can increase the risk of forming kidney stones so sticking to water and water-dense fruits like cucumbers and watermelon would reduce your risk.

Try to balance Your protein with fruits and vegetable[/b]s: Recent research suggests that people who are on a plant based diet have a lower incidence of kidney stones. The reason for this is most probably that animal protein makes urine more acidic, which can contribute greatly to you developing kidney stones. It is important to note that this does not mean you should eat less meat so as to prevent kidney stones instead try to balance out the acidity in this meat by eating lots of fruits and vegetables.

[b]Moderate your Calcium intake
: When the level of calcium in your urine is high this can increase the chances of you developing kidney stones. But if you decide to go on a low calcium diet because of this it can prove to be dangerous to your health as calcium also helps clean out waste products in your body before they travel to the kidneys so a lack of calcium can prove to be detrimental. So it is advised you look for whole food sources of calcium and aim at keeping it moderate.

Minimize your sodium intake: When the level of sodium in your diet is high this can increase your risk for kidney stones. Most sodium based foods are processed foods so you can drastically limit your sodium intake by simply witching to unprocessed, and whole foods. Doing this alone can greatly decrease the amount of calcium in your urine and therefore reduce your risk of developing kidney stones.
