We are no strangers to the repressive regime of the North Korean President, Kim Jong Un. There is no free press, media is censored and the internet is restricted to a certain few.

So locked out of mainstream media is the country and its citizens, it was reported in 2014 by the state controlled media, their National Team had won the world cup, despite not actually qualifying for the tournament.

Proof of the country’s censorship on web access was revealed in its DNS (Domain Name Server) records. A configuration error allowed researchers to map the entire North Korean externally-facing Internet (North Korea has a separate version of the Internet that can only be accessed within the country).

The result was astonishing. North Korea has ONLY 28 domain names! Most of these links apparently were dead. There was one though, http://cooks.org.kp/ which had information on North Korea’s cuisine.

North Korea is unforgiving to anyone or country that speaks ill about them. Last year, Kim Jong Un had a turtle farmer executed for ‘incompetence’. He also had his uncle executed with an anti-aircraft cannon after he fell asleep during a military parade.
