Born on the 10th of September 1964 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province in present day china. His name is actually pronounced in Chinese as ‘Ma Yun”, he is known officially as jack ma. He is the founder and C.E.O of the Alibaba Group ,with a net worth of $27.9 billion, a group of successful internet based businesses.
ACADEMIC LIFE
As a youth Ma failed the Chinese university entrance exam thrice after which he settled for Hangzhou teacher’s institute and graduated in 1988 with a B.A in English. He was head of the student council at school, he took up a job as a lecturer at Hangzhou dianzi university, lecturing in English and international trade. Also he attended the Beijing based Cheung Kong graduate school, graduated in 2006.
SUCCESS STORY
As with every success story Ma had it rough at the beginnings, applied for more than 25 different jobs and was turned down by all, at a police job interview they said ‘he was no good”. In 1994, Ma heard about the internet, he was in the United States in 1995 and with his friend’s help got to know about the internet. His first point of call was he searched the word “beer”, he found information about other countries but nothing from china. He and his friend created a “crash” website related to china and within hours they received emails from some Chinese wanting to know more about him. Then he came to understand the potentials the internet has, he, his wife and a friend collected $20000 and started an internet company, the company was about creating websites for companies it was called “yellow pages”.

In 2007, there was worldwide criticism against the practice of killing sharks for their fins, Ma announced that he and his family had "sworn off shark fin soup now and forever." Ma has stated that moment created a newfound interest in environmentalism that would shape his future ethos. In January 2009, Alibaba Group revised its listing policy and banned the sale of shark fin products on all of its e-commerce platforms.
Jack Ma is happily married to Zhang Ying. They have two kids a son and daughter.Ma met his wife when they were studying at Hangzhou Normal University.
