CHELSEA want John Obi Mikel to sign a new
contract and Antonio Conte is reportedly willing to play him further up the field to convince him to extend his Stamford Bridge stay.
The 29-year-old linked up with the Blues 10 years ago having emerged with Norwegian outfit Lyn.
And they beat off competition from Premier
League rivals Manchester United to secure his
services.
Rather than develop into the box-to-box
mid fielder, he was expected to though, Mikel has largely been deployed in a deeper role.
In contrast, he operates as a play maker for the Nigerian national team.

But Conte is apparently offering to utilise him in that position in order to entice him into agreeing a new deal in west London.
John Obi Mikel has played more than
350 games since joining Chelsea in 2006.

That’s according to OwnGoalNigeria, who were
told by a source close to the player: "Mikel and
Conte had a chat about his role in the team,
although he has been assured he will be played in the role that suits him the more by the manager. "He is also ready to fill in anywhere he is needed for the team."
Mikel has just a year left to run on his current
contract, hence Chelsea’s move to tie him down.
He is yet to feature under Conte this season due to his participation in last month’s Rio 2016 football tournament.
The Blues sit second in the table heading into
this Sunday’s visit to Swansea, after winning all three of their opening league games.
