Finally, we have a conclusion to the Stéphane Sessegnon mini-saga that has been rumbling on in France over the past week or so.

The former West Brom forward, who was released by the Premier League club at the end of last season, had been reported as being close to a move with Montpellier, with the Ligue 1 club’s president even weighing in on the matter.

The player asked Montpellier for a few days to sort things out in London, and was expected to report back to the south of France on Saturday, but Monday’s early report from L’Equipe suggested that hadn’t happened as Sessegnon was apparently close to Burnley.

The French newspaper claimed the player had secured a work permit to stay in England, and strong contacts with Burnley meant a move back to France was off the table.

Well, it seems they got that wrong as, just a few hours later, Montpellier have just announced an agreement has been reached with the Benin international on a two-year contract.
