But our team didn't string so many passes together and depended on the long balls, do you think they would play well this time?

I gave up on these gals after watching their first match
The coach has done nothing worthwhile with that team
A team that cannot string passes, void of ball holder and cannot shoot, how on earth will they score
England is desperate to win after the draw while KPR will be waiting to take their chances with us

This competition was over for our gals immediately after the first match

Yes, especially in going forward. But my hope is that we step up our game and not play the negative football we played on Saturday.

Though the team is poor, England is not a good side either. Their chances of getting 3pts is high

England Profile:

The past

England might be participating in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for just the second time, but they will do well to match their only prior appearance at this tournament. Then, at the inaugural edition in New Zealand, the Young Lionesses marched all the way to the semi-finals, claiming memorable wins over Brazil, Nigeria and Japan along the way. But although that 2008 showpiece witnessed the emergence of stars such as Lucy Bronze, Danielle Carter and Jordan Nobbs, England proved unable to follow it up by qualifying for the subsequent U-17 finals in 2010, 2012 and 2014. Consequently, the English will arrive in Jordan anxious to make up for lost time.

The present
The Young Lionesses’ U-17 Women’s World Cup exile came to an end in May, when they qualified in third place at the UEFA Women’s U-17 Championship in Belarus. John Griffiths’ side won all three games during the group phase – the only team in the tournament to do so – only to be narrowly edged out by the odd goal in seven in a thrilling semi-final against eventual winners Germany. The English would not be denied a place at Jordan 2016, though, and made sure of their participation when Niamh Charles’ double secured a 2-1 win over Norway in the third-place play-off.

The future
Griffiths has made no secret of the fact that emulating 2008 team’s run to the semi-finals is, to him, less important than repeating that side's success in bringing through the likes of Bronze and Carter. As the England coach said: “There’s a longer journey for my players to aim for and that is one day getting into Mark Sampson’s senior team. A World Cup will give the players more tournament experience which will hopefully help them if and when that happens.” In this respect, there are already promising signs concerning the current crop of English U-17s, with several Young Lionesses having impressed in Belarus. Among them were Charles, heroine of that play-off win, and Alessia Russo, a duo who topped the tournament’s assists and goals charts respectively.

Nigerians girls lacked tactical awareness, vision and preparedness. Synthetic fields are slower than natural fields. They are more likely to slow the roll of ball than the natural fields hence the girls seemed to misjudge their kicks during string of passes. The problem lies more likely on lack of preparation, which is very Nigerian, than on anything else. In addition, Nigerian society sucks because it tends to shower misplaced praises on a goal scorer instead of collective efforts in winning a match.

Nigeria's Flamingoes vow fight-back after Brazil loss

Nigeria will hope to beat England on Tuesday afternoon after they lost their opening group game of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan to Brazil at the weekend.

“We will pick up the pieces by winning against England,” assured top team official Dupe Oyewale.

“The girls were too nervous and so were not at their best possibly because most of them were playing at this level for the very first time and also against mighty Brazil.”

The Flamingoes, who have reached the last eight of this competition in the last three editions, will be hard pressed to win on Tuesday to get their campaign back on track.

Nigeria are bottom of the standings after England and North Korea played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in their opening game on Saturday.

Both teams have clashed once in this tournament with England winning 1-0 at the maiden tournament in 2008.

Kick-off time is 2pm Nigerian time tomorrow.
