Àbèní,today is that day
Streams ceased to flow,
Green leaves turned brown
And birds stopped to sing


Àbèní, today I lie
Not on soft wooly beds
But on sharp rocky stones
In remembrance of that day

That day was ten years ago
Under the dongoyaro tree
Where we sat on dead brown leaves
As the sun kissed our faces

That day you broke our oath
For you were betrothed to Àrèmú
Àrèmú, my childhood friend
Who I trusted more than myself

Àbèní, this ten years of solitude
Are like mist that veils distant hills
For my streams of love have ceased to flow
Green leaves in my heart have lost colour
And the birds that sing of love sing no more


Àbèní, I Olusegun , Omo bábà olóde( the son of the hunter) long for your return
