ALMIGHTY IS THE MODUS MAKING A RIGHT CHOICE FOR BETTER TOMORROW There has been a huge and unending argument on how to make the right choice. This bone of contention often occurs between parent and children, parental influence, relatives and well wishers. On this terrain, people have been intrigued, cajoled and deceived on how to become a better and useful resource in their various societies, which is due to their inability and incapacity to choose wisely. The most prime cause of this incessant idea is because most people are destitute of the ingredient and tool of life which is tagged EDUCATION, INFORMATION & ABILITY TO LEARN. One thing that is prerequisite to choice is what is known as VISION, MISSION AND PASSION. In furtherance on this discussion, you will be enlightened more on how to make the right choice. As a youth, for we to make a better choice depends on how we visualize the definition of “CHOICE” WHAT IS CHOICE? According to the oxford learner dictionary, choice can be referred to as option or a decision. An opportunity to choose or select something. Something that is the best or most preferable. This means that for every choice you make it is as a result of an opportunity. But before opportunity comes, you must have prepared yourself to make use of the opportunity wisely. PREPARATION + OPPORTUNITY= SUCCESS WHAT IS OPPORTUNITY? An opportunity is described as a chance for advancement, progress or profit. It also means a favorable circumstance or occasion. WHAT IS DECISION? Decision means a choice or judgment. WHAT IS EDUCATION? Education is the most effective tool in changing the minds and transforming the character of children and youth. It is also an institutional framework that leads to social and economic benefit which is as a result of self development or improvement & for societal liberty. Dig your well before you are thirsty. DIFFERENT CLASSES OF LEARNERS There are four categories of pupils and we should know them • THE NEVER –BE • THE COULD –BE • THE SHOULD –BE • THE MUST-BE  THE NEVER-BE : These are the kind of people you may advise to withdraw possibly to go and learn other jobs. They lack the ability to study and learn. They are so dull, they normally get frustrated and frustrating. They fail often; can be infirmity, or inability, nor unwillingness.  THE COULD-BE: They have potentials for learning but lack discipline. They can, but won't, if they read and study, they will make it. They need encouragement not to withdraw, such should be woken up.  THE SHOULD BE: They have ability and talent but they are discouraged somehow. It may be from their parents, who demotivate them unaware. It could be due to health problems; these are things we should talk of during youth gathering.  THE MUST BE: They lack nothing except enough opportunity. We are to give them 4 things: • Vision • Direction • Training • support RECIPE FOR BETTER CHOICE WHAT IS A VISION? A vision is the ability to see what God sees, vision is what is not yet, but which can be. Vision is what you are becoming, what you are pursuing. What you are achieving. Vision is what you are proving. What is driving you. It is the purpose of your existence. What you are aiming. Anybody without a vision is doomed.” my people perish because they lack vision says the word of God” THINGS YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT VISION. • A true vision comes from God • A true vision has a small beginning • A true vision has a future. • A true vision is motivating and challenging • A true vision has a process of developing • A true vision has a result to achieve; • A true vision shall be tested. WHAT IS MISSION? Mission simply means what you want to do. There is no vision that fulfills purpose without a mission. Draw a plan for yourself as well as the pros and cons for better vision. WHAT IS PASSION? Passion simply means power, emotion and determination. It also means what you long for or what you are aiming. REQUISITE FOR CHOICE OPTIMISM THESE THINGS WORK INTERDEPENDENTLY ON EACH OTHER. 1. Getting yourself informed 2. Getting yourself reformed 3. Getting yourself transformed • GETTING INFORMED This is the starting point of reformation. Information leads to reformation. Information strategically plays an important role in making a wise choice. Like the popular saying “ if you are not informed, you will be deformed. When you are deformed, you cannot perform, if you cannot perform, you can never be transformed. • GETTING REFORMED You cannot be reformed without getting informed. Reformation is talking about changing things that should be changed, removing things that need to be removed in your life so that you can be at the acme of life. • GETTING TRANSFORMED Transformation is a complete total revolutionary change that leads to change people and changing others. It makes the transformed transformer themselves. But when transformed, they begin to affect the lives of other youth. If you will amount to anything in the world of today you must dare to be different. TOOLS IN MAKING RIGHT CHOICE ACHEIVABLE OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE 5 D,S • Dedication • Discipline • Diligent • Determination • Delimtation THE 3 WHAT,S FOR CHOICE DETERMINANT • What are you good at, and what do you love? • What are your strength and weaknesses? • What may likely impede you from choosing rightly BEWARE OF VISION KILLERS These people can be described as follow: 1. CONCRETE THINKERS: These are people who have seen “the fact” too much to the point of finding it difficult to believe in the possibility of achieving the vision. 2. DOGMATIC TALKERS: These are people who will only talk arbitrarily about a vision without backing it up with purposeful action. 3. CONTINUAL LOSERS; these are people who say it cannot succeed again just because it failed once. 4. PROBLEM PERCEIVERS: these are folks who are quick to see problem but slow to provide solution. 5. SATISFIED SITTERS; These are people simply not interested in making progress. They prefer the STATUS QUO. WHAT IS DECISION MAKING? This is the making of different choice or judgment 5 STEPS TO BETTER DECISION • Identify your goal: people who aren't self-reflective are going to end up making bad decisions because they don't really know what they want in the first place. Don't make a decision based on wrong problem. • Eliminate choices by setting standards: if you are trying to buy a digital camera, list the features you will actually use any camera that has them therefore good for you. • Don, t worry about finding the best: how good about your decision is usually more important than how they are objectively measured. • Try not to rush: people tend to make poorer choices when they are in a bad mood or under a lot of stress. When facing a complex decision, use your conscious brain to gather the information you need and then take a break. • Be aware of biases: be ready to face critics and challenges when striving for a better decision. Don't relent amidst their ridiculous advices. STRATEGIES FOR MAKING DECISION. 1. ANALYSE OUTCOMES: working through a big decision can give you a kind of tunnel vision, where we get so focused on the immediate consequences of the decision at hand, we don't think about the eventual outcomes we expect or desire. 2. FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCT: research shows that people who make decisions quickly, even when lacking information, tend to make more satisfied with their decisions than people who research and carefully weight their options. Some of these differences is simply in lower level of stress than decision created, but much of it comes from the very way our brains work. The conscious mind can only hold between 5 and 9 distinct thoughts at any given time. That means that any complex problem with more than(an average) 7 factors is going to overflow the conscious mind's ability to function effectively leading to poor choice CONCLUSION Life is full of hard choices, and the bigger they are, the more options we have, the harder they get. Our future as human or youth is like a fence that nobody knows how beautiful and blossom it has been labeled. As human, we choose what we feel is best for us, but only God substantiate and sealed it. When making a choice, make God the first but not the last resort. He is the only one that gives, protect and vindicate our passion and mission for choice making. When making a choice, it pays to take some time to consider the outcome you expect. Consider each option and ask the following questions: What is the probable outcome of your choice? What outcomes are highly unlikely? What are the likely outcomes of not choosing this one? What would be the outcome of doing the exact opposite? Our life may not be going the way you and I planned it. But the most important thing is that, it is going exactly the way God planned it for us. We should bear in mind that our relationship with God and people around us should take precedents. This is because, we cannot succeed based on our own ideas alone but we can use other people's idea to succeed but remember, ‘knowledge governs ignorance, as no man can claim a monopoly of it since no man is an island unto himself. In retrospect for choice optimism, I strongly assert and affirm that education is a companion which no misfortune can depress, no crime can destroy, no enemy can alienate, no despotism can enslave.
