Producer and songwriter Rico Love recently was a guest
on "Taxstone’s Tax Season" podcast and opened up about
witnessing Usher put the beat-down on Bobby Brown
back in 2002 at a birthday party in Los Angeles.
We can't honestly imagine Usher getting violent, but Rico
recalled the incident saying, "Usher got them hands, too.
Usher will beat the hell out of you. Usher beat up Bobby
Brown, I’m not lying to you."
In the interview, Rico said that Bobby was hosting a
birthday bash when he got into it with Usher. Both guys
were intoxicated and what started out as being playful
turned into a fight.
The producer recalls, "Usher beat up Bobby Brown, I’m
not bullsh**ting you. Bobby Brown was drunk. Usher
went to his birthday party in LA. Bobby was drunk,
talking some sh*t to Ush. Ush thought he was joking.
Bobby was dead ass. He started pushing Ush in the chest.
And he said, ‘Yeah, lil n**ga.'"
Love continued, "He put his arm around Ush, he put him
like in a headlock. Like, ‘Yeah n**ga, don’t ever disrespect
me, I’m the king. You my son.’ Ush kind of like pushed
back, two-pieced Bobby Brown, quick. He did it so fast,
everybody in the party thought they was play-fighting.
Ush don’t f**k around."
Brown had a different version of the incident when he
was asked about the altercation years ago.
Bobby said: "When I walked into the party I ran into
Usher and we immediately gave each other a hug. While
he was holding me, he turned to the side and kinda put
my neck in a playful choke hold and started squeezing
me.
"I tried to tell him that I couldn’t breathe but he couldn’t
hear me because the music was loud. It didn’t help that
he was drunk. I was yelling, ‘yo, yo, yo let me go! I can’t
breathe!’ He was excited to see me and he was just
expressing himself with this gesture. He was so drunk he
didn’t realize what he was doing. I picked him up and
held him over the DJ booth which had a nice little drop
down below.
"When I did this, I guess his body guards felt like I was
threatening his life so they came to his rescue. They came
and pulled us apart which looked like a scuffle to the
people around looking on."
Usher spoke to MTV about the incident, but didn't really
want to go into it. He said, "What happened with me and
Bobby Brown? Nothing. Nothing. Bobby showed up at
my party and the party was over. People kind of alluded
to the fact that maybe there was a fight or something like
that. We never got like that. That’s it. He just got onstage
and said some words. No, actually I said some words to
him, or actually to the audience. That was it. Really, that
was it. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it [laughs]."
