Tyson Gay's 15-year-old daughter Trinity has died after being shot in the neck at a restaurant in Lexington, Kentucky.

According to WKYT, police were called to the Cook Out restaurant on South Broadway just before 4am after reports of gunfire between two cars.

Trinity was not in either car but both fled the carpark and it appears she may have just been an innocent bystander during the incident.

The 15-year-old, who had already been making steps towards the same career path as her father in athletics, was taken to hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the neck and died shortly before 5am.

Police are already questioning two people who may be connected after their vehicle matched the description of one of those involved, however, no news about the second vehicle, believed to be a dark coloured sports car is yet to be announced.
Tyson has briefly reacted to the news and told LEX 18: "She didn't make it. I'm so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It's so crazy. I have no idea what happened."

The American sprinter is now expected to fly back to Lexington at the earliest possible opportunity on Sunday
Trinity, like her father, was a budding 100 and 200-metre athlete and had competed for Lafayette High School in the past.

As you would expect, tributes have begun to pour in on Twitter and the official account of USA's track and field team were among the first to tweet: "Sending our thoughts & prayers to @TysonLGay & his loved ones as they mourn the tragic & senseless loss of his daughter, Trinity."
