Ahead of University of Ilorin’s 32nd convocation ceremony scheduled for Friday and Saturday, October 21st and 22nd, the management of the institution has disclosed that no fewer than 67 of the 8038 graduands made first class honours in different fields.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali made the disclosure while addressing journalists to herald the commencement of activities marking the convocation ceremony.

Ambali, a Professor of Veterinary medicine, gave the breakdown of the graduands to include 6069 undergraduates and 1903 postgraduates, with 166 Ph.Ds, 1486 Masters and 251 Diplomas. Aside from those who made first class, a further breakdown shows that 1,505 made second class upper division, 3200 made second class lower division, while 1124 and 70 students had Third class and Pass respectively.

While appreciating President Muhammadu Buhari for finding worthy two prominent members of the Institution for national assignment, in Profs Ishiaq Oloyede and Lenrie Aina, who were both appointed as the Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculations Board and Chief Executive Officer of National Library, Abuja respectively, he described both appointments, including an earlier appointment of a prominent member of the institution, Prof. Claudius Daramola as the Minister of State for Niger Delta, as a testament to the rating of the University as the citadel of choice.

Meanwhile the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Globacom Plc, Dr. Mike Adenuga will, on Saturday, October 22, deliver a special convocation address.

As it is the tradition, the university will also commission projects worth about a billion naira, ranging from the new office block to laboratories for the faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 500-seater capacity lecture theatre for the Faculty of Communications and Information Sciences, link road from Permanent to Mini campus, among other projects.
