Many of us who stayed in the hostels in our university days can relate to this (of course that is if you went to a northern Nigerian university). These are the boys most of us engaged in doing chores such as dish-washing, laundry, sweeping, shopping and many other tasks that we were either too lazy or too busy to do ourselves.

Well, this report by Premium Times calls that CHILD LABOUR!

Yes you heard me right. If you have engaged the services of such guys (yaro boys as they are called) before, this report is probably saying you've engaged in child labour before. What is the punishment for that offense in Nigerian law sef? Is it even an offense?

Here are excerpts of the report

A typical day for 13-year-old Abdulrahman Ismail, a resident of Samaru Zaria, starts at 5 a.m. After the Muslim morning prayers, Abdulrahman sets out for his daily menial job at the gate of the main campus of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

There, he, alongside other young boys, engages in helping students and staff of the institution carry their luggage to their hostels or homes for a fee.

The young stewards are popularly called ‘Yaro boys’ in the institution.

@op, your point is commendable but totally not welcomed. yes its child labour but if you know how this yaro business help all these boy then you will say its better for them to involve themselve in this minor biz than begging for money or stealing

GOVERNMENT
does govt ready to feed them or take care of them?
is there any plan for them? we make law without planning way out to help.

PARENT
Can their parent feed them?
now if they turn to become gboko aram then we will start shouting buhari donn start.

I don't support yaro boy but if there are no plan for them on how to survive then
