Not necessarily that every disease comes with certain symptoms. Some diseases are undetected till the end as they show no symptoms at all. One such medical condition is prostate cancer. Prostate cancer may go unidentified until it is diagnosed during other screening tests. However if you are diagnosed with one, there are several tests to approve its existence.

Prostate Screening Tests
To mark the arrival of this awful disease, some screening tests are performed. Prostate test procedures are as listed below.
Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Test: A naturally produced substance called PSA by prostate gland is analyzed through the blood sample taken from the vein in your arm. If the PSA amount is small then its natural but if the amount increases than normal levels, then it may indicate prostate infection, inflammation or enlargement or even cancer.
Digital Rectal Exam (DRE): During this test, the doctor inserts a gloved lubricated finger in the rectum to examine the prostate which is adjacent to the rectum. If any abnormalities are found by the doctor in the shape or size of the gland, then more tests might need to be performed in order to confirm.

Diagnosing Prostate Cancer
If any abnormality is detected in the above mentioned screening tests, then the doctor might perform other tests to determine whether you have prostate cancer. These additional tests include the following.
Sample of Prostate Tissue: If initial tests hint towards presence of prostate cancer then doctors may need to collect a sample of the prostate tissue. Prostate biopsy is carried out using a thin needle that is inserted into prostate to take out tissue sample. These tissues are then sent to the laboratory where they are tested for presence of prostate cancer cells.
Ultrasound: Transrectal ultrasound is used to evaluate the prostate. A small probe, about the size and shape of a cigar, is inserted in the rectum. The probe uses sound waves to make a picture of the prostate gland.

Determining Aggressiveness of Prostate Cancer
When biopsy confirms presence of cancer, the next thing doctors do is to test how far this disease has affected and how aggressive it is. Examinations are done in the laboratory to determine how much cancer cells differ from healthy cells. Higher the grade, the more aggressive the disease is which is more likely to spread at a faster pace. Gleason score is the most common scale used to evaluate the grade of the prostate cancer cells. Scoring combines two numbers and can range from 2 to 10, where 2 indicating it is non-aggressive and 10 means very aggressive.
