It means different thing to different people. It depends on who (i mean which employer) ure dealing with. While some may see a name of an influential person they know as ur referee which may boost ur chances .... I by chance got my present job because of d name of a referee i put on my CV which incidentally was an old friend of d oga @ top dt conducted d interview. Then, some employers may see u as unserious not having a ready-made or stable referees. Your referees MUST (I say MUST) include one of ur former lecturers or HOD (Under whom u study), then other 1 or 2 which is relative. But let them be people that are of gud character and whom ure also of gud character 2. But most importantly, divine favour is a major factor. ( Sorry, im a spiritually conscious fellow)
