The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Babatude Adejare, says government is committed to achieving well-organised markets, where sellers and goods or services will be sectionalised.

The commissioner, who spoke on Tuesday, said, “The move will eliminate the belief that it is when goods are sold by the roadsides that profit can be made.”

He said the policy of zero tolerance on street trading was still on, warning violators to desist or incur the wrath of the law which forbade anyone from converting the roadsides and setbacks to markets.

Adejare said the state water corporation had been rejuvenated, adding that it was working at maximum capacity.

He said, “Water supply in the state has been given a new lease of life as most of our waterworks such as Ishasi, Adiyan and Iju now produce and supply uninterrupted water to Lagosians.”

The commissioner said waste management would take a new dimension in the state as from 2017. He advised Lagosians to dispose waste properly and maintain a good sanitary attitude as the Yuletide approached.

“We are reforming waste; we are no longer going to do it the way we are used to. The government is also poised to control and eradicate diseases such as Lassa fever and malaria through our vector control programme,” he added.
