When you here the term Shark and Dolphins the first team that come to mind are two giant sea animals which lay substantial claim to the oceans, while one is the easily tame-able and man friendly, the other is vicious flesh eating demon which many dread.
This article actually dosen;t focus on their characteristics or nature but on two great football houses that bear their nomenclature as their brand identity.
Dolphins F.C and Sharks F.C are two formal local clubside that were based in the rich oil producing state of Rivers in Nigeria reminiscent of the mersyside clubs in England (Liverpool and Everton) or the Madrid clubs in Spain (Real and Athletico). But as it is everywhere one is bound to be more successful than the other and in this case Dolphins was the more successful team with 3 league title and 4 F.A cups in their trophy cabinet while the vicious Sharks with no bite can only drool in envy of their more illustrious neighbours.
This brings me to the irony of names despite Dolphin F.C bearing the nomenclature of the more friendly beast, their performance on the pitch is that of a vicious team which conqured the nation league (touted to be the most difficult in Africa) on three occasions while Shark F.C lacks viciousness which can be seen by how many years they spent in the lower tiers of the Nigeria football league.
