Our client, a major player in the safety industry is looking for an Engineering Design.

Job Objective:

Draftsman is responsible for collaborating with project engineers, designers and line managers to develop project designs from concept through detailed drawings. Create BOM's and develop scope of work.

Reporting To: - HEAD OF OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT

Job DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in field measurement and inspections.
• Understand client’s project requirements.
• Develop detailed mechanical designs using Computer Aided Design (CAD).
• Review and analyse specifications, sketches, drawing, ideas and related data to assess factors affecting installation of components.
• Determine material and equipment selection and create estimates and specifications.
• Coordinate with and consult other workers to resolve issues in relation to designs.
• Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies.
• Prepare variations of design.
• Develop scope of works.
• Clearly present all pieces of information the drawings to members of the project team and clients in written, oral or drawing format.
• Communicate closely with all members of the project team to identify individual responsibilities, project goals and to further your understanding of the designs.
• Communicate closely with your reporting line manager to determine workload availability.
• Suggest ways to improve office workflow, procedures and infrastructure.
• Contribute to a positive culture of safety focused on prevention.
• Identify areas where increased training or knowledge would benefit or compliment your expertise and determine a method for gaining this knowledge.
• Contribute to a positive and collaborative office atmosphere through shared: respect, reflection and philosophy.
• Any other assigned roles by the Management.
• Ensure Mechanical Designs for fire systems as per relevant NFPA standards
• Develop Shop drawings
• Develop As Built drawings
• Develop electrical plans and layout
• Audit existing systems and develop gap analysis reports
• Verify and develop the BOQ and BOM for projects
• Provide insight to design
• Produces hydraulic calculations using SHC sprinkler software
• Reproduce gas systems drawings off consolidated reports
• Interpret drawings
• Produce 3D drawings and 2D layout

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical or Industrial/Production Engineering.
• HSE Qualification is an added advantage

ABILITIES/SKILLS:

• Ability to study drawings (Mechanical, Electrical and Architectural)
• Knowledge of Plumbing design and symbols
• Understanding of standard machinery part drawing.
• Knowledge on English/Metric unit conversion.
• A proactive self-starter and achiever.
• Keen interest in learning new CAD software and engineering design.
• Team leadership skills
• Ability to prioritize and schedule work to meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication & reporting skills- written and oral.
