Top 10 Reasons Not To Use Wordpress by akinjuly77(m): 6:53pm On Nov 19, 2016
Below is a list of the top 10 reasons why we at Axiom SEO Solutions don't use WordPress. We believe a custom coded website is unparalleled in almost every way, and offers so many more benefits than an off-the-shelf solution like WordPress. Check out some of the reasons below and see if you agree with us. WordPress may be cheaper in the short run, but how much money are you going to spend fixing it later? Our hope is that you realize that the price may be low, but the total cost will be way higher in the long run. Do it right the first time, and go custom. Or, have us convert your WordPress site to a custom one today!

1. Slower Loading Speeds Not only does the load speed of your website affect user experience and bounce rates, it is also a method of ranking in SEO now. Google doesn't like sending a lot of people to a site that takes a long time to load, no matter how great your content is. The amount of database calls, external scripts, and unnecessary code in the initial load for WordPress easily doubles your server's load time and resource usage. This doesn't only affect your customers experience, if you are paying for bandwidth or storage, your bill is dramatically too high!

With a custom designed website, every aspect of performance is under your control; nothing unnecessary is used, and this results in MUCH fewer resources needed on each page dowload. It saves you money, increases your user experience and engagement, and helps your rankings. What's not to love?

2. Much Less SEO ControlFull Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is not possible with WordPress. Granted, some people may disagree, but with all of Google's new measures to crack down on black-hat SEO techniques, your website's performance is quickly becoming a sole determining factor for your ranking. With all of the performance issues and limitations on WordPress, it's hard to argue against this point.

Custom design unlocks the full potential of your website's performance, and allows for a better appearance to search engines. Also, you are not limited by your theme's tagging, script orders and minification, and other essential methods of solid, proven SEO.

3. Problems with Security
This section is very important! Website hacks are rising at an alarming rate, especially those pertaining to site-jacking, the process of holding someone's website code hostage until they pay the ransom. With a WordPress website, you would essentially have to delete all of the source code from the server, reinstall WordPress, and then go through and manually set up your website again. That is, if you have the code backed up offline. If not, you are either forced to start over from scratch, or pay the ransom and hope the hacker is in a good mood. This type of ransomware is becoming readily available, and set up so anyone with the code can target any WordPress website.

With a custom coded website, first of all, your code is easily backed up and stored offline. If someone were to hack the website (not that they would get anything from it), the fix would be a simple matter of changing the server password, deleting the code, and reuploading it. Even for a large website, the process would take no more than a few minutes. Not to mention, the hacker would have to specifically target your website, it would not be succeptible to the popular WordPress hacking vulnerabilities.

4. Maintenance Contrary to popular belief, WordPress does not always reduce the amount of maintenance work needed to run your website. It actually is quite the opposite; updates to the theme, plugins, and even WordPress itself can break major aspects of the functionality or appearance of your website overnight. It's stressful knowing that while you are away, your website could simply cease to work, and you wouldn't find out until you started to lose sales or visitors. You would then need to hire a developer to go into the source code and find the cause of the issue and fix the compatibility errors. WordPress custom solutions cost a lot more money than it would for a standard website, because the code in WordPress is much more complicated to allow for its one-size-fits-all functionality. Saving money in the short term may seem great, but is it really worth the risk for serious financial pitfalls later?

A custom website has substantially fewer possible problems. Once the code is written, as long as it is not based on external resources with the possibility of change, it will stay running as long as the server is. There will never be any updates that could break something, unless you want something changed. Then, extensive testing can be performed without going live until the code is guaranteed to work perfectly. You can rest easy knowing that nothing disasterous is likely to ever happen to your website.

5. Features and Extendability There are thousands of plugins already created for WordPress to increase its functionality relatively problem-free. They have at least that going for them. However, if there is no plugin available that does exactly what you want, you need to hire a WordPress developer to go in and create a custom one. This can cost a lot of money, and there can be compatibility issues with other plugins already installed. Also, each plugin you have installed significantly adds to the load time of the website, which negatively impacts SEO.

With a custom solution, the entire sytem is integrated to work seamlessly together and be inherently compatible. The developer already knows the system, and making small changes is usually a quick, simple task. There is no need to hire a different developer for each change, and the end result fits into the final outcome seamlessly.

6 WordPress Updates
This one doesn't require much explanation. WordPress is a platform that goes through updates to fix bugs, add features, and increase compatibility just like any other program. However, this can have disasterous results on your website if it is based on code that the update changed. You could suddenly lose functionality of certain parts of your site, or the theme could have a conflict and ruin your appearance to customers online. Either way, the costs in loss to your user base would soon outweigh the costs of a custom website.

You don't have to worry about surprise updates with a custom website, because all of the source code is custom built and controlled on one server. As long as the server is online, your website will stay onine, unchanged.

7 Plugin Compatibility
The thousands of available plugins can be pretty handy if you are looking for a quick solution to a feature you want on your website. What happens if a plugin doesn't exist that does specifically what you need it to though? The next step is to hire a developer to create a custom one for you. Sometimes, there can be compatibility issues between plugins. For example, say you spent the money to hire a developer, and they created an amazing plugin to do what you needed. Sometimes plugins can create conflicts between each other and cause them to not function properly. Then it's back to the developer to fix the issues.

Custom websites don't use plugins, they just have a working infrastructure. If you want to add a feature, it's almost always very easy for your developer. Compatibility issues are fixed during the initial creation phase, so with a quality developer you should never run into those issues. Not to mention you won't have to worry about that section updating, unless you specifically request it.

9 Themes and Appearance
This is another big topic. On most occasions, so-called "web designers" will grab a free template for WordPress and input your content, then call it good and run away with your money. Rarer are the designers that will grab a premium, or paid, template to drag and drop elements into a "custom" look. This still in no way is a custom design, but most business owners have no idea what is really going on behind the scenes. A non-unique look is not the only problem with themes; another is theme updates. Any custom work that makes your theme truly set apart will be overwritten if you are not careful. If the company that created your website used a standard template, you may want to have us check the source code behind the scenes... All too often header tags, scripts, and other vital SEO elements in the code are either missing, used incorrectly, or are just not optimized. If this is the case, you could be hurting your company reputation in the eyes of Google without even knowing it!

Our specialty here at Axiom is setting your website up for success from the ground up. That means special attention to every aspect of the SEO of your site, with no possibility of getting penalized by Google for anything. Also, since we do custom design, your website will be completely unique!

10 Server Migrations
It's no secret, WordPress website migrations are a pain. Unless you pay for a service to do it for you, the process is a nightmare. There are multiple steps to take, any of which could result in your entire site going offline if something gets messed up. Any custom changes are easily lost, which can also result in compatibility issues. Definitely worth avoiding, if at all possible.

On the contrary, migrating a custom website is usually a matter of simply copying the source files over to the new domain and putting a 301 redirect in the .htaccess file. Very little domain authority is lost this way, and the whole process can be done in a few minutes.

Conclusion

Hopefully, you found this information to be helpful. We intended it to be very in-depth, but useful to those looking into the pros and cons of using WordPress. Our hope is that you will use this information to make a more educated decision on your choice of web platform; we know it can be very difficult, especially starting out. Axiom SEO Solutions firmly stands behind the standpoint that a custom website has far less drawbacks than that of using WordPress, and we encourage you to check out our services on the home page!

Do you know what these top Nigerian websites have in common? They are built with WordPress. This is just to mention a few not to talk of other big brands like Yahoo, Samsung, Forbes, Mashable, Mozilla and the likes

You should just admit you don’t know anything about WordPress or its potential instead of posting this bull crap. I mean, if WordPress wasn’t the darling we all know, why would big brands choose to run not one, not two but several of their websites (and applications) on the platform?

WordPress is very easy to use, you don't need to go to a coding school before building with WordPress. Every points you listed up there are all void and invalid. With the thousands of plugin in the WordPress repository, you can achieve any task you want just by clicking few buttons.

What I'll just advice WordPress users is to learn some basic coding and know how WordPress works, in and out so that you can develop your own themes and plugin to suit your needs. WordPress has come to stay.

So Mr.OP please try and research well before posting your next article and stop "forming" Don.

NB: If you want a blog or website for your business. I'm available for hire (I use WordPress for my web projects).

When u need your coding skills is when you have menial functions that are not available...

and again, if you are in rome, act like romans, you are in nigeria, u should know the type of clients you would be having, they dnt care if you code unclad for weeks, all they want is to get the job delivered and fast...

If you like coding from scratch it your choice, everyone can also, but when comparing to WP, then u are wrong...

maybe virgin SEO tricks won't work on WP too. For example WP mobile template isn't soo mobile friendly on feature phones like Nokia 2626, but nairaland will work fine on almost any device with a browser.

SEO..? well, I wont dive into that becos its obvious...

the case of WP mobile template, I can boldly tell you, its not too far from perfect, nairaland you are talking about is just a webpage with no single special function....
the web world is rolling fast and you dnt expect to meet the requirement of java phones... PC, smartphone and tablet is what is focused on now...
websites with special functions dnt work on small phones or opera mini, why..? because they have higher demands that old phones dnt meet..
Or do u expect the likes of PayPal, eBay, Jumia, instagram to work seemlessly on java phone..? NO, they offer better functions that outdated phones cant beat!
so dnt compare NL which is just awebpage with 90's funnction...

SEO..? well, I wont dive into that becos its obvious...

the case of WP mobile template, I can boldly tell you, its not too far from perfect, nairaland you are talking about is just a webpage with no single special function....
the web world is rolling fast and you dnt expect to meet the requirement of java phones...
You're making sense. That guy don't just get it

maybe virgin SEO tricks won't work on WP too. For example WP mobile template isn't soo mobile friendly on feature phones like Nokia 2626, but nairaland will work fine on almost any device with a browser.

Bro, this 2016 (going to 2017) stop sounding like you're in 2005.........jeeze..... Nokia 2626?..seriously?!!!!
