Liverpool welcome Birmingham to Andield on Monday night for another attempt at grabbing 3 points. Liverpool are still under our observation radar. . .sure there are still 6th on the table - not a bad spot- but they are 9 whole points behind table-toppers Chelsea. It's only about a third of the season gone, but Liverpool need to make sure they keep themselves in the title race. After last weekend's 3 - 1 loss to Fulham, Rafa is under some amount of pressure to get things right. In fairness, the club is ravaged with injuries to a number of key players. Skrtel is out with a virus, Aurelio(calf/shin), Riera(hamstring), Glen Johnson(calf muscle strain), Dossena, Fernando Torres(abdominal strain), and captain Steven Gerrard(groin). Rafa Benitez has had to risk playing a semi-fit Torres so far. Torres is likely going to feature in this game 'cos Liverpool need those 3 points. Andriy Voronin, David Ngog and Dirk Kuyt are available as well. Most likely pairing will be Torres and Kuyt, if Rafa goes 4-4-2. In midfield, I'm beginning to wonder just what is up with Aquilani. He is over his virus; perhaps he needs to get back to being fully football fit. Let's hope he plays on Monday; Aquilani is a bundle of midfield skill and quality. With him in, Gerrard won't be missed so much. Mascherano will be in for strength, then there's creative player Benayoun, Lucas and Ryan Babel. It's a pretty good selection of players. As long as they can get clinical with their finishing, there really shouldn't be a problem. Babel's UCL goal against Lyon on Wednesday night was absolutely smashing. In defense, Liverpool definitely miss Glen Johnson. Skrtel, Aurelio and Dossena are all doubts for this game; let's hope they can pass their fitness tests. The appeal against Degen's red card in the Fulham game has been turned down, so he will not feature. All in all, goalkeeper Pepe Reina has got some extra work to do. Liverpool can win this game; all they need is a lot of determination and goal accuracy. Birmingham are in 14th position on the table with 11 points. They might not be the favorites for this game, but sometimes these ''smaller'' teams come all out to play against the big ones. Birmingham drew their last game against Manchester City; it was a pretty good performance too. Strikers James McFadden and Christian Benitez are the likely pair to lead the challenge on Monday night. Midfielder Barry Ferguson might be one to look out for. Birmingham have done quite a lot of conceding so far; coach Alex McLeish might wanna try fix that before the trip to Anfield. Liverpool are the favorites for this one, but it's football. Birmingham could spring some surprises. |

I honestly dont think Liverpool should be getting a sticky thread. How many fans do they have on NL? Exactly my points, Till now no Liverpool fan has posted on this thread. Let concerned fans open threads for their clubs. Ibime opened for Chelsea, An Arsenal fan to open for them. I also dont think Liverpool deserves to be stickied to the top or why do we have to scroll down to see more active threads when Liverpool deadbeat game threads occupy the top? |

rasputinn: Stupid boy! I post in Thisisanfield.com, Redandwhitekop.com and Nairaland. Nairaland is wonderful but these other sites are Liverpool sites where we can at least be a bit more analytical, objective and critical. Most importantly, Rasputin's half-wit comments are not on these sites! Sometimes I wonder how all these injuries came upon us at the same time. I ask again, did the club offend anybody? For all those calling for Liverpool threads to be locked, why don't you just stick to your 'booming' threads? Why do you feel the need to post here? Twerps. End of rant. (By the way, this was my 666th post so leave me the hell alone!! |
