Greetings to all pro industry designers on here!

I'd like some professional advice & tips on building/creating a solid design portfolio. As much as I consider myself a bit of a perfectionist, I don't want to seem like I tried too hard & overdid it. I'm aware of design projects like business cards, logos/branding, brochures, flyers but are these really the only things to be included in a design portfolio OR is there more to be taken into account? What other skills should be showcased as an aspiring designer? I'd appreciate your suggestions.
