* who the Hasmoreans n Maccabees were
* Who Herod the Great is.
* Who the Seleucid were
* The attitude of the Judea peoples
* The political climate at the time
* Why there was heavy hatred between the peoples of Judea n the phareses

Because Jesus christus was a roman creation. Most of the characters in the story had Latin names or of Latin origin, ie Luke (Lucas), Mark (Markus), Peter ( Petros), Barnabas, Judas, Lazarus, etc. Even Mary ( Miriam) is said to be of Latin origin. The Jews find it difficult identifying with roman characters, the same way igbos would find it difficult identifying with songo, olodumare, obatala and other Yoruba mythical characters.
