Just Negodu! Very funny statements coming from MTN boss in Nigeria, I mean, I can't possibly take him serious. Asking the federal government of Nigeria to ban WhatsApp and Viber is very laughable. First of ncc attempted to increase our data fares now this rubbish is coming from MTN.

The Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of MTN Nigeria, Mr. Ferdinand Moolman, has disclosed that the activities of ‘over-the-top’ companies like WhatsApp, Viber have adverse effects on its business and affects the sustainability of Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.

In his own words, “the depletion of operator revenues by unlicensed providers of “over-the-top” telecoms services who do not have any physical presence; nor pay any taxes; nor make any significant contribution to employment or other socio-economic objectives of government in Nigeria.”

Speaking further, the CEO identified another factor as the inability of operators to access foreign exchange, explaining that “this is particularly debilitating given that most of our inputs are sourced off-shore. This has very significantly increased both operating and capital expenses.”

I don’t have anything against the above opinion of Mr. Moolman, because everyone has a right to air his or her opinions but banning whatsapp? Sir, I strongly disagree. Also, he was advicing the Nigerian government to take the part of the UAE. Let’s take a look at the step the UAE took below..

The UAE’s telecom operators banned the recently introduced voice and video calling feature on Snapchat 2.0. That's for Snapchat not WhatsApp or even Viber.

Following an update in software, the social messaging app users could chat with their friends on voice or video calls. However, this new feature in the app’s latest update is against UAE’s VoIP regulations.
It bans third-party providers from providing internet based telephony services.

What's stopping these wis guys to setting up Voip feature. Don't they also have data plans so what's their issue? The only reason people use these apps is because the service they offer is subpar. I only use what's app to chat with Nigerian honestly. Other than that WiFi calling works best for me.

If you fail to adapt, you run out of business. They are letting other ISPs take over. Make data affordable and fast and people will patronize you instead of running to the competition. Just look at glo

Also, Kodak (I know some of you are too young to remember) invented the digital camera that eventually put them out of business. Because they failed to adapt and be innovative.

Nigerian masses are suffering under the weight of economic recession and one greedy telecoms company wants to ban a cheaper alternative to their expensive and unreliable network? Nigerians say no to MTN. We say no to an attack on our freedom of choice and freedom of speech.

If you claim Nigeria is not profitable enough for you, please pack your bags and go back to your xnenophobic South Africa.

Finally, we have not forgotten how you have been siphoning Millions of dollars out of Nigeria on a daily basis, thereby contributing to the economic woes of this country. Empty Hen angry

He actually has a strong point, though his grievance is due to his company's loss, not Nigeria's revenue loss. Many mobile phone users in Nigeria have cut down on calls, and have taken to social platforms/media in communicating.

Albeit, Whatsapp and viber do not contribute to Nigeria's economic development, neither do they create employment opportunities. But where he got it wrong was asking the federal government to ban the social apps without creating indigenous social apps as alternatives.

Because they just released a smartphone doesn't mean they weren't out of business years ago. Why not use your head?

Kodak was founded by George Eastman and Henry A. Strong on September 4, 1888. During most of the 20th century, Kodak held a dominant position in photographic film. The company's ubiquity was such that its "Kodak moment" tagline entered the common lexicon to describe a personal event that was demanded to be recorded for posterity.[7] Kodak began to struggle financially in the late 1990s, as a result of the decline in sales of photographic film and its slowness in transitioning to digital photography.[8] As a part of a turnaround strategy, Kodak began to focus on digital photography and digital printing, and attempted to generate revenues through aggressive patent litigation.[9][10]

In January 2012, Kodak filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.[11][12][13] In February 2012, Kodak announced that it would stop making digital cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames and focus on the corporate digital imaging market.[14] In August 2012, Kodak announced its intention to sell its photographic film, commercial scanners and kiosk operations, as a measure to emerge from bankruptcy, but not its motion picture film operations.[15] In January 2013, the Court approved financing for Kodak to emerge from bankruptcy by mid 2013.[16] Kodak sold many of its patents for approximately $525,000,000 to a group of companies (including Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung, Adobe Systems and HTC) under the names Intellectual Ventures and RPX Corporation.[17]
