A gambler identified as Yakubu Bashir, is currently facing charges at the Ikeja Magistrate’s court, on counts of fraud and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace.

Bashir was reportedly arrested at the Bendel Inn, Ipodo road, Ikeja, Lagos, for disturbing people’s peace after he was asked to pay for his expenses. He had earlier gone to celebrate his N36,000 win from a sports bet he had made, but had ended up incurring a N145,000 bill on food and drinks.

According to PUNCH Metro, trouble started when the inn’s manager asked him to pay up, and he said he had only the N36,000 he had earlier won. He however begged to be allowed to spread the payment over a period. This resulted in a disagreement and Bashir was reported to the police at the Ikeja Police Division, and was subsequently arrested.

Bashir pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charges, and has been granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case has also been adjourned till January 25, 2017.
