You are most likely not using the right measurements.
eggs and butter are the key for light fluffy cakes

Plz cn sm1 giv a detailed procedure of bakin a nice soft cake.

As ohsisi said egg and butter but also make sure you mix it well so it looks fluffy before baking . . .can't realy explain how it should look, if you have the cake mixer thing even better

for pete's sake

cream the butter and sugar until soft, whisk the eggs until creamy, add your flour and baking powder, fold the mixture add vanilla essense and it should be soft and creamy.

put in the oven and voila it should be a nice fluffy sponge cake

The last cake I baked was kinda bitter, guess I used too much 'baking powder'. How am I to know the right quantity it use?
