Our generation is used to living in a fast speed, technologically advanced society but just 100 years ago, things weren't so fancy. The early 1900s were fascinating time of primitive automobiles, heroin being sold over the counter, and other fun facts that seem completely unbelievable to those of us who can't go more than an hour without a smartphone.

Listed below are a few ways the world was unique in the early 20th century.

1. Before Coca - Cola started using caffeine, the extra kick you get out of the beverage was good old fashioned cocaine.

2. Mother's and Father's Day did not exist.

3. The speed limit in most world's cities was just 10 miles per hour ( 16 kilometres per hour ).

4. Veterinarians could make between $1500 - $4000 per year.

5. There were just 230 recorded murders in the US.

6. The average woman used to wash her hair just once a month.

7. 2 out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write.

8. The Eiffel Tower was the tallest structure in the world.

9. Canned beer had not yet been invented.

10. Only cocaine was illegal, marijuana was available for purchase in pharmacies while doctors prescribed heroin to patients.

11. The word " teenager " was not yet in use.

12. The population of Las Vegas was 22 in 1900, 800 in 1910 and 2,304 in 1920.

13. Many practising doctors were educated haphazardly. John Hopkins changed this and became the first modern medical school.

14. 95% of birth in the US took place at home.

15. Liberia and Ethiopia had gained independence in the early 1900s.

Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years.
