The Return of MMM and the fidelity of Nigerians

Many have failed to examine what pushed Nigerians into participating in different ponzi schemes aside MMM but instead we dwell more into an assertion that "Nigerians are gullible". There is an adage which says "A person who has not been to a battle field will always tag himself among brave men". As the scheme "returns", we must reiterate the fact that few persons would have been involved if not for our low and unsustainable standard of living. You will discover that the scheme is touring the African continent while the reason behind this is not far fetched.

MMM had been discouraged by the government through Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other agencies or parastatals. Some religions also forbid such schemes and likewise the 'body language' of some online forums and media platforms had been against the pyramid scheme which is quite commendable, but has Nigeria's economic atmosphere been able to dissuade its citizenry from getting enticed with those schemes?

Only those who have not encountered monetary challenges would have the statement "Nigerians are gullible" flow through their tongues without conditioning their affirmation. Some Nigerians are stucked in debt of house rent, children's tuition fees, shop rent, business capital and many other sardonic situations we find Nigerians in the recession the country is plunged into. No doubt, those with strong faith in what they worship and believe in hard work won't be swayed by the temptations of 30% or 50% acrrual involved in the ponzi scheme. Some hid under the believe that "life itself is a risk, therefore they can risk their spare money".

The return of MMM after their accounts were frozen may be detrimental as fear and panic had been groomed in the mind of Nigerians involved in the scheme even though they neglected the warnings prior to the suspension of the scheme in December, 2016 till January 14, 2017. This panic is capable of turning many of its participants into "get-helpers" while those who will provide help will be scanty. Then who helps the helpers?

Nigerian's fidelity in the return of the scheme can not be overestimated as the top guiders kept on persuading and giving hope to its participants. The Bitter pill we must swallow is that until our basic standard of living are catered for and sustainable, it will be laborious to curtail Nigerians from continuous participation in the scheme and subsequent ones.
