Bearing in mind that most of the catfish consumed are from various fish farms where
their feed could be just anything and the fact that the retailers keep them without much
care, just a change once in a while of the water of the container where they are kept, i cant
help but wonder whether there will be any nutrtients left in them as a source of protein.

ya'll are cracking me up.

catfish is one of the fattiest, dirtiest, unhealthiest fish.
the skin is full of junk.
big fish are unhealthy. becuz they consume smaller fish, they take in all the small fish's junk.
catfish is super high in cholesterol.

@africhika,

seriously now, that sounds like your personal and biased opinion
I will appreciate the real facts and source if you will. Thanks.

^^ wow, i guess your don't read health/nutritional articles, eh?

ask any nutrition or doc and they'll tell you catfish is way too high in cholesterol and mercury to eat regularly.
salmon and tuna are good ones.

@africhika

blast me, you were proven right. and i had been consuming catfish peppersoup with
reckless abandon, thinking fishes are generally low in fats (cholesterol) when compared
to beef and the likes of animal produce. But wait a minute!! there may be that chance that
American catfish outscore their Nigerian mates in their level of cholesterol, dont you think? Did
you add mercury? I always had my suspicions that those things had nothing to offer, then this, poison.
Re: How Nutritious Is Nigerian Catfish by chika98: 7:55pm On Dec 10, 2009
I don't like the catfishes that we have here in the West. Tastes like blubber to me. YUCK! I rather eat them in Nigeria or something and the one caught in the wild too not some farm raised piece of crap!
Re: How Nutritious Is Nigerian Catfish by Nobody: 12:56am On Dec 11, 2009
una don spoil catfish for me oh shocked

the Nigerian one tastes better- i agree.
Re: How Nutritious Is Nigerian Catfish by mccloud224(m): 5:32am On Dec 17, 2009
The question should be "How nutritious is wild catfish"

The wild ones tastes good and have more flavor. The "farmed" catfish is full of blubber/gelatin and offensive to eat.
Re: How Nutritious Is Nigerian Catfish by sandee575(f): 9:45am On Dec 17, 2009
Cholesterol, blubber , mercury, gelatin, haba, sounds like recipe
for prisoner on death row. Saves the injection, electric chair, even
firing squad. Just continue feeding the guy with "farmed catfish" for
the desired result.

I learnt fishes with scales on their bodies are better than those without scales like catfish, titus, etc cos they have low cholesterol and are clean since the scales help them to keep off dirt from their bodies

Re: How Nutritious Is Nigerian Catfish by thepakmail: 3:01am On Jun 18, 2012
This is disgusting and you call this a fish farm. The walls of the fish tanks are covered with mould and green alges. Your yellow plastic containers are black now. Please people eat these fish, be carefull to avoid poisoning people.
Re: How Nutritious Is Nigerian Catfish by GeorgeD1(m): 7:19pm On Jun 18, 2012
ayosat,

i think thepakmail is right. please put your farm in order.

Re: How Nutritious Is Nigerian Catfish by thepakmail: 2:04pm On Jun 26, 2012
My Dear Ayo, in business you must always welcome criticism with good faith and improve on it. If you are not criticised, you will never be better. I only criticised your work, the yellow containers have really turned black from dirt and the ponds has mould and algae on them, all you need to do is to accept the facts and make amendments to position yourself to be better than your competitors. Cursing me or any other person will not help matters; it will only make them worse.

Re: How Nutritious Is Nigerian Catfish by GeorgeD1(m): 9:10am On Jun 27, 2012
ayosat!

you keep running your mouth here when all you needed to have done is to take the correction and improve
your business. ok, since you claim to know more than everybody else, go ahead and do things your way.

allow algae to take over your pond. let the plastic cans not only turn black but brown. its your call.

later on you'll wonder why you've not gone beyond the level where you are right now!
