Gabon draw their first match which is also the opening match of the competition Juary Soares got a dramatic late equaliser for debutants Guinea-Bissau as they recovered from a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang strike to hold hosts Gabon to a 1-1 draw in the Africa Cup of Nations opening game. Gabon appeared to be heading for the victory in Saturday’s Group A curtain-raiser after Borussia Dortmund striker Aubameyang turned the ball in from close range seven minutes into the second half at the Stade de l’Amitie in the capital Libreville. However, Soares headed home an equalizer to make the match stalemate in the 90th minute to earn Guinea-Bissau a memorable point in their first ever match at the continental finals. Group B: Algeria, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Tunisia. ALGERIA 2-2 ZIMBABWE SENEGAL 2-0 TUNISIA Riyad Mahrez scored twice as Algeria left it late to earn a 2-2 draw with Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of Nations. The Leicester winger put his side ahead with a curling shot in off the post. But Kudakwashe Mahachi's low shot into the corner and a Nyasha Mushekwi penalty made it 2-1 to Zimbabwe - a lead they held until the 82nd minute. Algeria hit the bar twice before Mahrez levelled with a speculative 25-yard shot that Zimbabwe goalkeeper Tatenda Mukuruva should have saved. While Mukuruva may feel embarrassed at his error, Algeria just about managed to save their own blushes as they rescued a point from their Group B opener - a match they were very much expected to win.

•Group C Ivory Coast, Togo, Morocco, DR Congo. IVORY COAST 0-0 TOGO DR CONGO 1-0 MOROCCO DR Congo put their difficult Africa Cup of Nations build-up behind them to beat Morocco in their Group C opening fixture, despite finishing with 10 men. Junior Kabananga pounced on a goalkeeping error to give the Democratic Republic of Congo a 1-0 win over Morocco in an Africa Cup of Nations upset on Monday in Gabon. Success came two days after the central Africans refused to train over a bonuses row and a red card and an injury meant they were briefly reduced to nine men in the closing stages. Victory took the "Congolese Leopards" to the top of Group C after the opening round as defending champions the Ivory Coast were held 0-0 by Togo in the first half of a double-header. Kazakhstan-based midfielder Kabananga profited from a mistake by Munir Mohamedi in the Morocco goal to score from close range 10 minutes into the second half. Defeat was a major blow for France-born Morocco coach Herve Renard, winner of the competition with Zambia in 2012 and the Ivory Coast in 2015, who has set a last-eight place as his minimum target.

•Group D: Ghana, Uganda, Egypt, Mali. GHANA 1 - 0 UGANDA EGYPT 0 - 0 MALI Ghana's Andre Ayew surpassed his father's record by scoring the goal that beat Uganda 1-0 in their Group D match at the Africa Cup of Nations. The West Ham winger slotted in a penalty on 32 minutes after captain Asamoah Gyan had been pulled back. Ghana also threatened through two Gyan headers, while Ayew and Christian Atsu tested Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango. Uganda came close when Faruku Miya hit the outside of a post but they could not force their way back into the game. It was a disappointing return for Uganda, who are playing at their first Nations Cup since 1978 when they lost in the final to then-hosts Ghana.

the second round of matches Group A: Gabon, Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau, Burkina Faso. CAMEROON 2-1 GUINEA BISSAU GABON 1-1 BURKINA FASO Four-time champions Cameroon moved top of Group A as they fought back to deny debutants Guinea-Bissau a historic first win at the Africa Cup of Nations. Shock qualifiers Guinea-Bissau, making their debut at this year's tournament, led through Piquito's superb solo goal. Cameroon restored parity after the break when Sebastien Siani rifled in low from outside the penalty area. Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui drilled in another low strike as Cameroon earned their first Afcon win since 2010. The Indomitable Lions, historically one of the dominant forces in African international football, failed to qualify for two of the three previous tournaments and lost all three games in 2015. But, after drawing their opening game against Burkina Faso, they are well placed to reach the quarter-finals. They are two points clear at the top of the group after the opening three games ended in 1-1 draws. Earlier on Wednesday, hosts Gabon fought back from 1-0 down with a goal from their star player, Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, to hold Burkina Faso. Cameroon meet Gabon and Guinea-Bissau face Burkina Faso in Monday's deciding games. Guinea-Bissau must win to stand any chance of reaching the last eight. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/38579255

Second Round of Matches Group B: Algeria, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Tunisia. Senegal 2-0 Zimbabwe Algeria 1-2 Tunisia Senegal have become the first team to progress into the quarterfinals of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations after they beat Zimbabwe 2-0 on Thursday. First-half goals from Sadio Mane and Henri Saivet took the Teranga Lions to their second victory in Group B, and combined with Tunisia’s earlier win over Algeria it is enough to see the West African giants into the last eight of the competition. Senegal were on the front foot from the first whistle and it was no surprise when Sadio Mane put them 1-0 up in the ninth minute. The Liverpool player turned Keita Balde’s low cross into an empty net after a swift counter attack from the West Africans. Four minutes later it was 2-0, with Henri Saivet scoring one of the best goals of the tournament thus far. The midfielder found the back of the net direct from a free kick about 25 metres out, giving Zimbabwe goalkeeper Tatenda Mkuruva no chance

the second round of matches •Group D: Ghana, Uganda, Egypt, Mali. Ghana 1-0 mali Egypt 1-0 Uganda Substitute Abdallah El Said scored a late winner for Egypt to knock Uganda out of the Africa Cup of Nations. After a drab game with few chances for either side, Mohamed Salah teed up El Said, who struck firmly past Uganda keeper Denis Onyango on 89 minutes. Uganda's Joseph Ochaya earlier had a goal correctly disallowed for offside. The win means Egypt play Ghana on Wednesday with top spot of Group D still at stake, while Uganda are out of their first tournament since 1978. Ghana secured their place in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 victory over Mali earlier on Saturday. On a deteriorating pitch in Port-Gentil, seven-times champions Egypt failed to break down a resolute Cranes defence for long periods. Onyango made an impressive clearing header to deny the onrushing Salah at the end of an otherwise lifeless first half. Uganda began the second half brightly, forcing veteran Egypt goalkeeper Essam El Hadary to punch several set-pieces clear but ultimately failed to register a shot on target as Ochaya turned in Faruku Miya's through ball from a clearly offside position on 52 minutes. El Said blasted a shot well over when unmarked and Marwan Mohsen went close for the Pharaohs with a header, but Egypt appeared to be heading for their second consecutive goalless draw. However, an otherwise quiet Salah showed great composure late on to check his shot and play in El Said with a reverse pass, the substitute's close-range shot evading Onyango. Uganda now face Mali in the final round of group games on Wednesday, with Mali needing a win and for Ghana to beat Egypt by two goals or more if they are to qualify. |

Group A: Gabon, Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau, Burkina Faso. BURKINA FASO AND CAMEROON qualifiers for quarter finals Gabon became only the fourth hosts to exit the Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage after a 0-0 draw with Cameroon, who reach the quarter-finals. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed a great chance for Gabon early on when he bundled the ball wide from two yards. His team-mate Denis Bouanga brought saves from Fabrice Ondoa as Gabon poured forward in the early stages. Bouanga was denied a last-gasp winner, that would have put Gabon through, when his shot crashed back off the post. The rebound sat up perfectly for Didier N'Dong but his shot was pushed over the bar brilliantly by Cameroon goalkeeper Ondoa as he was picking himself up the floor. Gabon went into the game knowing they had to win to guarantee their qualification from Group A but they go out of the competition after three draws. Burkina Faso are the other quarter-finalists from the group after they beat debutants Guinea-Bissau 2-0, a result which put them top of the table above Cameroon by goal difference.

Group B: Algeria, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Tunisia. Algeria 2-2 Senegal Tunisia 4-2 Zimbabwe SENEGAL and TUNISIA QUALIFIERS FOR QUATER FINAL Algeria crashed out of the Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage after failing to win a single game in Gabon. They were held to a 2-2 draw by Group B winners Senegal in a match they had to win to have any chance of avoiding an embarrassing early exit. Islam Slimani scored both their goals, a two-yard volley and a scuffed effort that wrong-footed Algeria's goalkeeper. But Senegal twice equalised, Papakouly Diop and then Moussa Sow both firing in efforts from the edge of the area. Algeria went into the tournament as one of the favourites for the trophy but leave with their reputation damaged by three underwhelming performances. After being held to a shock draw by Zimbabwe in their opener and then beaten by neighbours Tunisia, who booked their quarter-finals with a 4-2 win over Zimbabwe on Monday, Algeria have had a tournament to forget.

•Group C Ivory Coast, Togo, Morocco, DR Congo. MOROCCO 1-0 IVORY COAST DR CONCO 3-1 TOGO DR CONGO AND MOROCCO QUALIFIES Morocco beat Ivory Coast 1-0 to reach the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals and knock out the champions. Rachid Alioui scored with a terrific shot from 25 yards to earn the win for Morocco and their coach Herve Renard, who led the Ivorians to the 2015 title. Ivory Coast needed a win to go through but gave a listless performance, creating only two chances of note. Wilfried Zaha shot weakly from 12 yards, while Salomon Kalou's header from a tight angle clipped a post. The Elephants lacked urgency in their play and go home after appearing not to put up a fight. |

Group D : Ghana, Uganda, Egypt, Mali. EGYPT 1-0 GHANA MALI 1-1 UGANDA Egypt reached the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals as Group D winners with a 1-0 win over already qualified Ghana, who finish as runners-up. Mohamed Salah provided the decisive moment, lashing in a free-kick through a gap in Ghana's defensive wall. A mistake by Ghana keeper Brimah Razak presented Marwan Mohsen with a chance to double the lead but he shot over. Daniel Amartey missed Ghana's best chance, heading wide from Christian Atsu's free-kick to the back post. The result means Egypt will face Morocco and Ghana will take on DR Congo in last-eight matches on Sunday. Record seven-time African champions Egypt knew a point would be good enough to take them through to the knockout stage and, after Roma forward Salah put them ahead, they were content to sit back and protect their position. But for all Ghana's increased possession, Avram Grant's side - not helped by the loss of captain Asamoah Gyan to injury on 40 minutes - could not find the cutting edge up front to get back on level terms.
