Android is a mobile operating system (OS) own by google. It’s one of the most widely use mobile OS today. With more than 70% smart phone users and about 60% tablet uses this mobile OS. Operating system such as ios and windows which are the major competitor have been relegated to the background. Black berry and Symbian have little share in the remaining per cent of users world wide.

Android have a long history even though it was founded in October 2003 by four computer wizards. They named the establishment ‘Android inc.’ In 2005, google purchase the company at $50 million and converted it to a mobile OS. This was not the initial plan as the original plan was targeted at digital cameras. It was noted that few people will be interested in gadgets like that so the change of plan. The first OS which name were not made public were tested within. Example was M3 and M5 versions. It was in October 2008 that android one was released to be used in HTC Dream (T-mobile G1), the first android phone. In 2007 google decided to enter lines of phone and in 2010 google Nexus was release.

Android is an open handset alliance (OHA) with more than 80 consortium company involve. Due to that, many manufacturing companies and network carriers decides to edit stock android to suit themselves and maybe their customers. The only exceptions are google nexus phones that contain the OS as it is without modification. Google later adopted Linus kernel to run the platform. Android celebrated their birthday on the day beta version was release. Ever since the beta version all other android versions have been nick name alphabetically with a code name of a desert (sugary sweet food).
